Tetsu was brilliant - Tetsu was absolutely brilliant - we had a super-interesting (brief) historical introduction to the Samurai and Ninja, delivered in an entertaining and engaging way. We got to practise our shiruken throwing before dressing up as Samurai- which was hilarious! An excellent and fun way to get a basic understanding in the space of an hour. Thank you Tetsu.

Not a proper museum but a recommended experience - It starts off with a simple explanation of the japanese history, the rise and end of the samurai, going from room to room with a number of exhibits. At the end of the session we experienced throwing the shuriken and a little competition, and dressing up like samurai. Our guide Misu was well versed and made it more interesting and flowing

Nice break from shopping - This is a great activity for families at Kyoto Shinkyogoku Shopping Street. You’ll learn interesting facts about samurais and ninjas, and the staff are knowledgeable and fun. They speak clear English, and my kids loved the jokes. We all enjoyed the engaging activity with ninja stars and wearing the samurai armor. Judging from faces of other tourists there, they all pleased with the experience. I would highly recommend this experience to everyone, especially families with kids.

Loved it! Perfect family fun - I took my two sons, ages 12 and 13, and we loved it! (I’m 49-year-old mom.) It was a fun, unique, and experiential activity that balanced out other touristy things we did. Loved dressing up, and practicing with ninja stars and blow darts. The boys didn’t want it to end. We enjoyed the guided tour of the museum afterwards. Educational and interesting for tween/teen boys and me! A highlight of our Kyoto trip and I highly recommend!

Highly recommend for groups and no reservation needed for our party of 10! - Great and informative experience! One of our top experiences in Kyoto! We did not have reservations ahead of time so we just walked up and they were able to take our party of 10 people aged 9-60’s. It was very informative about the history of Samurai and our guide was funny. Kids enjoyed the history, the armour and weapons, throwing the ninja stars and trying on the armour at the end with plenty of time for pics. Definitely book it! Walking distance to Mimaru Kyoyo Shimmachi Sanjo if you’re staying there. Also it’s in the middle of a covered shopping district and close to Nishiki Market so if some of your party doesn’t wanna participate, they can shop and eat and wait for you without any complaints.

Great family activity - Very nice experience and activity for the family! We loved it and learned about the Samurai History. We did the Ninja experience only, because our daughter is younger than the allowed age, but I would have done both otherwise.

This experience is kitschy and best suited for families with children who intend to do a dress up experience - I am not saying this is a bad idea in any way, but my impression is that it is meant more as a fun activity with the kids. Education component is light. There is not really a museum component in a traditional sense, but some of their stuff is authentic. It’s about half an hour with a group to go through a series of small rooms to learn about the samurai and ninja background, then a new spot to throw plastic throwing stars, then off to the dress up part and photos. Some might think it’s a little expensive (especially for a group) for what you get. You can buy tickets in advance or at the location.

Not a real museum and not worth the money - It is a private venture. Don’t know if you can call it a museum. They have some costumes and swords of samurai’s / don’t know if they are real. The explanation is in good English but takes only about 30 min! Then you have a shurikan competition. It was cute but not worth the money. You are in and out in 45 min.

Catch tourist! Don’t go there! - No, no, no, no. Succession of rooms without any scenography, just signs displayed and some explanations in English given by the Guide. Not even time to read them. Extremely expensive for what it is. Don’t go there, having to change floors for the rest of the exhibition everyone gets lost, even they didn’t even know who was part of the tour or not.
