The official name of Kinkakuji Temple is Rokuonji Temple. The gold leaf adornments on the exterior walls of the temple’s main building, the Shariden, have earned it the nickname “Kinkakuji Temple.” Originally constructed in 1397 as the villa of Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, who inspired the character General Toshi in the anime “Smart Ikkyu,” it was later converted into a Zen temple.

During the autumn foliage season, visiting Kinkakuji Temple offers a stunning view, with the golden temple contrasting beautifully against the red leaves covering the mountains.
