- Arashiyama - Create ethereal and serene portraits among towering bamboo stalks. We can also explore the surrounding area which has many unique photo spots, such as the river and kimono forest.
- Hokan-ji Temple - The pagoda framed by traditional streets offers a quintessential Kyoto shot. Very close to Kiyomizu-dera, at Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka Streets. This is the iconic “Gion” photo spot.
- Gion - Gion is best visited in the spring. A calmer area with many old houses and unique scenery. Best with kimonos.
- Kinkakuji Temple - Reflective pond and golden temple provide a majestic and serene setting for portraits.
- Nijo Castle - Lovely photos can be taken in the castle’s beautiful gardens. Note that the castle itself does not permit any photography inside. Nijo’s surrounding area offers some good hidden photo spots as well, particularly of gardens.
- Heian Shrine - The bright red buildings and lush gardens provide a stately and elegant backdrop for portraits.
- Kitano Tenmangu Shrine - Known for its plum blossoms, this shrine offers vibrant and colorful portrait settings. Highly recommended in early spring.
- Shimogamo Jinja - The forested grounds and rustic bridges provide a tranquil and natural backdrop.
- Pontocho District - This narrow alley along the Kamo River is perfect for atmospheric evening portraits with its lantern-lit charm.
- Maruyama Park - Highly recommended year round. Beautiful park with lanterns, cherry blossoms, and red fall foliage.
- Kyoto Imperial Palace - The expansive gardens and traditional architecture provide a grand setting. Kimonos recommended.
- Kamogawa River - Very beautiful and underrated spot for photos that really come alive. The iconic Kyoto river.
- Yasaka Shrine - Next to Maruyama Park. Very fun shrine with colorful buildings and lanterns.
