Great experience with the Samurai experience - We had a really great time with the Samurai experience. We got to dress up and learn a form with a wooden sword. Our sensi was very good and very patient. Which I really appreciated. The explanation of the history of the Samurai was also very interesting. I definitely recommend the Samurai experience.

Fun eperience - It was fun. Jo was a very nice instructor. He tried very hard to work with my wife who is left-handed (Samurai is a right handed profession). He took pictures and video of us on our phones. We were also able to visit the museum which had an excellent English tour led by Yoshi.

Fun for the family! - Lots of fun, casual and accessible plus an interesting history tour. Recommend for people of all ages and interests. Thank you.

Worth a visit! - Tepe was fantastic! Maie was also amazing as our samurai instructor. Informative and worth every penny. Highly recommended!

Informative and very interactive! - Saku was a great tour guide and Yoshi was a great teacher of Samurai sword fighting! The entire experience was very informative and learning the history from the museum brought back memories of being in school! The admission fee is on the higher end for the experience but it is worth it as a tourist. There were plenty of friendly people and this is a great activity to end the day with!

My son’s favorite in Kyoto! Note the training and museum tour are at different addresses. - Great experience! Address: Just to note, the first part is not at the museum itself. I put in the address and Uber came up with the museum as the destination. Make sure it’s the address on the booking and not what Uber pops up with. Make sure you leave well in advance…the Uber taxi was late, it took longer than Uber noted, and we were dropped off at the museum instead and had to walk/run 8 minutes to the samurai location. Another family said “were you dropped off at the museum, as well?” We do appreciate they did allow us to join the 8 minutes late. The training is also in a great shopping promenade, where we picked up gifts. Samurai Experience: The instructor was informative but not the most pleasant. He may have had an off day… he made a comment of being quick to put on the attire because we were late. He moved my son to the front mid-training because of others spacing, mentioning three times to himself my son’s technique wasn’t great but it was fine anyways to move him (he’s 12). Then at the end he said we could take photos now since we were late (again) and then he was irritated that my son couldn’t hang up his attire to his standard. I’m really hoping he was just having a bad day, because other reviews seem to have had a better experience than a person annoyed having to teach or help in the first place. Museum: The museum tour guide and staff were amazing. My son’s favorite part of our Kyoto trip. My son is a history buff and loved learning, handling the attire/tools used during the period. He also loved the ninja stars. The dressing up at the end was also a fun experience. We enjoyed the gift store. If we would have done our research, we should have found out beforehand how to transfer the small samurai swords to the U.S. to hang on my son’s wall. As we have a short time in Kyoto and didn’t know, we didn’t buy them. Overall, a great experience! A must if you have kids!
