Start by learning how to fold your fabric in a particular way and wrapping a pipe in the fabric. Wind a string around the pipe and squish the fabric to the bottom of the pipe , and then dye your fabric with your favorite color. Unwind the string and roll your fabric with a towel, and press it. Then unfold your fabric to see the results.
While your fabric is drying (about 30 minutes), you’ll learn more about shibori. Browse art pieces, tools, and samples displayed in the museum, and try on a shibori kimono, if you wish. The museum shop also sells a variety of shibori items, souvenirs, fabrics, and more.

This experience results in a stunning silk scarf, perfect as a memento of a visit to Kyoto. Classes are typically conducted individually and last between 30 to 60 minutes.
The process begins with selecting a preferred color and learning a specific fabric folding technique. The folded fabric is then wrapped around a tube and secured with string. The fabric is compressed to the bottom of the tube before being dyed.
While the fabric dries, which takes approximately 30 minutes, participants can explore more about shibori by viewing art pieces, tools, and samples on display at the museum.
The museum shop offers a wide range of shibori items, souvenirs, fabrics, and more for purchase.
