Start your exploration of Northern Cyprus by crossing the ‘green line’ border into Kyrenia. This town features scenic stone homes that surround the port, overshadowed by the historic Kyrenia Castle. You can opt for a guided tour of the castle, or take the time to appreciate the harbour views on your own. Afterwards, the journey continues to the Bellapais Abbey, dating back to the 13th century. Bask in the grandeur of its dilapidated Gothic cloister and enjoy the sweeping views of the Mediterranean. You’ll also have some leisure time in the village, once home to the well-known writer, Lawrence Durrell, in the 50s.
Next up is a trip to Nicosia. Here, you’ll traverse the UN buffer zone, entering the southern region via Ledra Street. You’re given ample time to explore the city independently. Ledra Street is one of the key commercial streets in Nicosia, with a wide range of both local and global establishments, including cafes and eateries. Laiki Yeitonia, meanwhile, represents the historic district within the old city. It boasts of traditional architectural designs, winding lanes and an irresistibly enchanting atmosphere.
