- Bellapais Monastery - Perched on the cliffs of the Kyrenia Mountains at an elevation of 220 meters, this monastery was initially settled by the Canons Regular of the Holy Sepulchre, who fled Jerusalem after its fall in 1187 to Salahaddin Eyyubi. It is considered one of the most beautiful structures in the Middle East, with numerous additions made over the centuries. It ceased to be used after the Ottoman conquest in 1570. There is much to explore and learn about here.
- Kyrenia Castle - This stunning castle was constructed during the Byzantine period, with further enhancements made during the Lusignan, Venetian, Ottoman, and Colonial periods. The Shipwreck Museum, located within the castle, is a must-visit and is situated by the harbor. The shipwreck dates back to 300 BC and includes many artifacts found on the ship.
- Kyrenia Gate - Upon driving from Kyrenia, one arrives at Nicosia, where the old city is encircled by walls built during the Lusignan period and reinforced during the Venetian period. Originally, there were only three gates to enter the walled city, with Kyrenia Gate being one of them. The dome of the gate was constructed during the Ottoman period, and the dates and initials visible on the gate are from the Colonial period, which will be discussed during the visit.
- The Samanbahce Quarter - This area consists of houses built in the 19th century for those in need. It features unique architecture and a central fountain among the buildings.
- The Venetian Column - This column was brought to the center of Nicosia from the Salamis Ruins during the Venetian period. When the English arrived, they replaced the lion symbol with a globe atop the pillar. It remains in the center of the walled city of Nicosia.
- Buyuk Han - Built in 1571 by Muzaffer Pasha, this is one of the caravanserais (Han) featuring a central mescit (prayer place) for Muslims. Animals, such as camels, were housed on the ground floor, while people stayed on the upper level. Today, it is a major attraction with its lacework, handicrafts, and local culinary delights. Visitors can enjoy free time for lunch and shopping at this historical site.
- Selimiye Mosque - Originally constructed during the Lusignan period and named ‘St. Sophia Cathedral,’ this is where the Kings of Cyprus were crowned. After 1570, minarets were added, and it was renamed ‘Ayosofya Camii,’ later becoming ‘Selimiye Camii’ in 1954.
