The hike is fairly easy and most of it is over flat ground. • La Fortuna Waterfall - Afterwards, you will be driven for another 30 minutes to reach La Fortuna Waterfall. The hike to the base of the waterfall has about 500 steps (which you will need to climb back up). Once at the base, you will have some time to swim and enjoy the waterfall.

  • Arenal Hanging Bridges - You will spend about 2.5 hours hiking in a primary rainforest, where you will cross about 16 hanging bridges called the Mistico Hanging Bridges. This hike in a large forest with nothing compared to the one in the Volcano Trails, so enjoy it as much as you can….. and remember it’s a Rainforest so expect rain, and bring your rain gear.

Awesome experience with an amazing tour guide! - This trip was amazing! Our tour guide Juan Carlos was super friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this tour because he brought a scope with him which allowed us to see everything up close. We would not have spotted all the wild life on our own, so was well worth it! He took lots of pictures for us and was very patient. Our driver was excellent and sweet as well.

Great bang for your buck! - This excursion was great bang for your buck and we covered so much ground in one day! Our tour guide, Val, was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. She was with us the whole day across all three activities. We were lucky that it did not rain, but is best to be prepared for any type of weather and have ponchos, sunscreen, and bug spray. The first activity was the volcano hike through lava fields. Val shared the history of the volcanos in the area and took us to several lookout points. The hike was intermediate level which was an accurate description with some steep hills and loose rocks. Next was the La Fortuna waterfall. Val warned us that during times of heavy rainfall you may not be allowed to go swimming in the water but we did not have that issue. After going down 500 stairs we spent 45 minutes in the water before heading back up to a traditional Costa Rican lunch. Lastly was the Hanging Bridges which was a 2 hour hike through the rainforest. We saw lots of animals including birds, snakes, and monkeys. Val would set up a scope and was able to take great quality pictures with our phones. We also crossed around 20 bridges in total, including 5 hanging bridges. We loved how much ground we were able to cover in one day and were tired and satisfied after. The only negative thing to say about the day was the two other groups we were with. They were not social and impossible to impress all day. This is no fault of the tour group, but is something to keep in mind as you don’t have control over who you will be paired with. Overall we would recommend to those who are comfortable with hiking and looking to experience the different activities La Fortuna has to offer. We would have missed so many things without having a guide!

Highly recommend! - Our guide, Juan Carlos, was so educated and engaging for our group - including 2 boys - 8&11 years old. He even found my husband a toucan (which had been elusive to us up until this point.). We had a blast and learned so much on the tour with Juan Carlos! Highly recommend!

AMAZING tour! - We had an AMAZING experience on this tour! We had Juan Carlos as our tour guide and he was phenomenal. It was so obvious how much he loved his job and his country. He spent extra time trying to find things to show us and became super excited when he found animals that he has likely seen a thousand times before. He was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the volcano, animal life, and vegetation. We could not of had a better experience and would 100% take this tour again, especially with Juan Carlos! Lunch was also delicious. Highly recommend this tour!

Great experience - The tour was great. It rain on the trip and we were not prepared for it, but Neifryn was a life saver. He had a ziplock bag where we could put our phones in to protect it from the rain. One of my friends was late getting his phone to the bag and he wasn’t able to charge his phone later. The trip was incredibly fun. I had mindless fun almost like I was young and at summer camp again.

Amazing tour and tour guide - Highly recommend this tour! I spent a week in Costa Rica and this was the best tour. The guides were very kind, enthusiastic, and such a joy to be around. They are experts and went out of their way to find animals for us, we even pulled over to see monkeys, and they were so gracious to take photos and videos of the animals through their scope so we can have them forever. Valeria was an incredible guide, and highly highly recommend her!! Seeing three different locations, landscapes, and history was such a great way to learn about La Fortuna.

Covers a lot - We really enjoyed this tour! None of it is difficult, but you are on your feet & walking a lot! My only complaint is the tour guide spending a lot of time at the volcano with us standing in one place as he gave us an entire history lesson & even asked us questions to see how much we knew/learned. I would’ve rather he incorporated the information throughout the hike of the volcano.
