Highly recommend!! Book with José!! - Highly recommend booking any jacamar tour, they take care of you very well!! We did a tour to the cloud forest, and because it is not the most popular tour in La Fortuna, we have a completely private tour!! José is the best tour guide. If it’s possible, try and request him. He is amazing!!! Knows SO much about Costa Rica in all aspects from nature, economy, culture, everything!!! He picked us up at 7:15 right on time. He drove my family and I 1.5 hours to the cloud forest, and taught us so much about Costa Rica on the way!! Unfortunately the weather wasn’t the best to hike as it poured rain, and he was so nice and kept apologizing even though it’s not his fault it was raining. On the hike he taught us a lot about the ecosystem, different plants, animals, and answered anything we asked. The lunch at the visitor center is AMAZING… we were expecting something like a sandwich or salad, No, it was a delicious hot meal!! I got a Casado with grilled chicken and it was one of the BEST things I’ve eaten in this trip. José was telling us that to be a tour guide here it’s a long process with many many certifications, classes, exams. They are incredibly knowledgeable and work really hard to make sure they are providing accurate information. Again, if you can try and request José to be your guide!!! He is the best!!!

Awesome cloud forest hike! - This hike was amazing! Jairo is a wonderful, friendly, extremely knowledgeable guide. From the drive there to the 3 hour hike to the home cooked lunch at the end we enjoyed it all. We hiked through beautiful forest to overlooks and the stunning crater lake only seeing a couple other visitors. We saw cool insects, birds, and so many plants. Highly recommend the hike and Jairo!

Great bird watching! - We did a birdwatching tour in Guancaste - I was amazed by how many different species we saw. An incredibly wide variety, and a number of uncommon ones as well - everything from a laughing falcon to owls to bats and mot-mots and a roseate spoonbill. Even a very large crocodile.... The guide was very knowledgeable and nice - it starts early, but we were the only ones even in high season, so you might score a private tour!

A great day of birding with Hugo at Juan Castro Blanco - We have done a lot of birding in Costa Rica, but had never been to Juan Castro Blanco. We asked our hotel, and none of their naturalists had been there before. They recommended Hugo of Jacamar. It was a great recommendation -- Hugo is one of the top naturalists we have met in Costa Rica. He is experienced, knowledgeable and very friendly. JCB is not an easy place to explore, because it is remote and not completed as a national park. Hugo probably knows JCB better than anyone. First he took us to a private location bordering the park, where we did some excellent birding and had a tasty breakfast at El Congo. Then we went into the park itself. The park's infrastructure is not yet completed. But is has some excellent cloud forest birding. Hugo told us that it was probably similar to Monteverde fifty years ago, before development kicked in. As a result, the trails were rustic, but there was nobody else there and we did some great cloud forest birding. A memorable day of birding, thanks to Hugo! Thank you, Mark & Susan
