Additional Information

The La Fortuna’s Mistico Hanging Bridges tour offers an enthralling way to explore the rich and multifaceted rainforest habitat. This guided expedition escorts tourists on a picturesque amble through the canopy, traversing an array of magnificent suspension bridges, measuring from 98 to 410ft, elevating above the forest terrain. The adventure spans roughly 2.5 hours, culminating approximately 2.5 km of pathways.

As you navigate the bridges, there’s a chance to sight an extensive assortment of plant life and wildlife, including vibrant birds, sloths, active monkeys, and exotic bugs. Informed and outfitted guides are present to assist in identifying and describing the animals and the rainforest system. Mistico is celebrated for its stunning sweeping views of the Arenal volcano and Arenal Lake.

There’s also the alternative to enhance your trip with a savoury and authentic Costa Rican meal. For a nominal additional cost, you can include a serene visit to the modest yet pleasant ‘Palmera real hot springs’ situated at the rear of the restaurant.

Hanging bridges, volcano, hot springs - This was super fun! Definitely busy but learned so much from our tour guide Chris who was fun and extremely knowledgeable about the rainforest. Caesar also did an excellent job driving the van! We did hanging bridges, a quick volcano hike, lunch and hot springs. Would definitely recommend as a great way to experience La Fortuna.

Fun activities BUT pick the Red Lava Tour that Includes La Fortuna Waterfall - Hiking the Mistco Hanging Bridges was easy and fun. Walking across the bridges and the views seen were awesome. The tour guides were also full of energy and knowledge. The pineapple snack before the "volcano hike" was sweet. The volcano hike was okay, but it did allow everyone more time to get to know each other. Lunch was tasty, and by lunch, we all became a group of friends. After lunch the group was split between those who paid extra for La Fortuna Waterfalls and those who did not (this tour). Those who didn't pay for the waterfall segment would have an extra hour at the hot springs. But we were convinced by everyone going on the waterfall segment to pay extra for the add on, which we did. It turned out to be the best decision. Swimming in the waterfall turned out to be the highlight of our day. Afterwards we spent an hour at a somewhat crowded hot springs, but the water was soothing after a long day of hiking. It was a great day with good conversation with new friends. Recommendation: Do the tour by Red Lava that has all these activities BUT also includes La Fortuna Waterfall. It's a but more money but well worth it!

Went on several different tours with Red Lava and enjoyed all of them. - We did 4 different tours with Red Lava and enjoyed every single one. All of our tour guides were great. We went with Kathleen to hike the volcano and she was very knowledgeable and was able to spot so many different animals and wildlife. Santiago was also great. We went to Rio Celeste with him and he was so energetic and fun. Overall we had an incredible time in La fortunate and red lava was a big reason why.

Great Tour - Guide was great. Glad we used a guide rather than on our own as he provided many interesting facts and other information that we wouldn’t have received otherwise. He was also good at spotting animals that we totally would have missed.

Super rainy but still a blast! - Me and my girlfirend learned a lot about the flora and fauna in Costa Rica. Enrique was such a nice guide and funny too. We didn't feel like he did it just for the "tour", but he was a really nice person and he was very interested in us and what we wanted to see an experience. I have been to Costa Rica several times an this was my second tour with Red Lava to the observatory lodge because i also enjoyed it so much the first time. I am really glad to have had such a nice guide with Enrique, because i know it's not self-evident everywhere in La Fortuna. Muchas gracias amigo!

Good!! - Very nice tour, our guide was lovely. Sadly we couldn’t get gold views of the volcano due to the weather but there were still other beautiful views throughout. We saw lots of wildlife and our guide was very knowledgeable. Brilliant day. Swimming was also fun.

The guide was great and... - The guide was great and very engaging. The hike was beautiful and gave an excellent view of the lake and the volcano. The thermal springs were fine but maybe aimed to an older audience if you have kids.

Not the best - We have done several tours in La Fortuna, which have all been outstanding, and this was the only trip that was disappointing and did not live up to our expectations. The trip wasn’t really as described, and seemed rushed. We were picked up from our hotel earlier than advertised, and were not ready, which wasn’t the best start to the afternoon. There was no water available for the hike so we had to ask to be dropped at a shop to buy some. The tour did not follow the advertised agenda. There was no coffee break. We were handed a takeaway coffee while looking round the museum. The museum was small but interesting, but we were rushed out before we had had a chance to read all the information. The hot springs were good, but we did not get the mud treatment that was advertised, and the free cocktail was some rum in a plastic cup topped up with Sprite. We were supposed to watch the sunset over the volcano from the observatory but this did not happen. Instead the tour was cut short by more than hours. On the plus side our tour guide was friendly and tried his best. I was also disappointed that the driver and guide did not wear face masks in the car. Not a bad tour, just so-so, and not as advertised.
