Laç, also referred to as Laçi, is a metropolis situated in the northwestern region of Albania. It serves as the administrative hub of the Kurbin District, under the Lezhë County. The city is home to a popular church known in Albanian as either ‘Kisha e Laçit’ or ‘Kisha e Shën Anoit’, dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua. St. Anthony, also known as Fernando Martins de Bulhões or Anthony of Lisbon, (born between 1190 and 1195 and died on June 13, 1231), was a Catholic saint who hailed from a prosperous Lisbon family in Portugal, and passed away in Padua, Italy. The church is an immensely significant pilgrimage site that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year particularly on June 13th, and Saturdays. It is regarded as the primary pilgrimage site in Albania and is rumoured to have an ancient history as a religious spot for the Pelasgian Illyrian Gods at the cave it’s built on, which has been frequented by believers for thousands of years.
