Supportive, understanding and professional guide and hike agency in La Paz - They were really friendly, informative and gave my partner and I a discount for the price of doing Pico Austria (1 day hike) and Huayna Potosi (3 day hike). Although my wife was only able to do the Pico Austria hike due to illness, they were very understanding and allowed us both to reschedule on the day we were meant to do Huayna Potosi. On the Huayna Potosi tour we had Ramiro Ramires as our guide. He was supportive through, made sure we knew what we were doing and was approachable to other hikers when they had worries or some difficulties. Would recommend!

Huayna Potosi, an unforgettable experience! - I had an incredible experience hiking potosi. Our guide Ramiro Ramirez was outstanding. He was really patience making sure both my mate Tom and I made it to the summit. I can definitely recommend doing the three day tour, which include ice climbing, some basic mountaineering knowledge, hike to high camp and off course the summit. I can recommend this experience and the company.

Excellent experience, trustworthy company with experienced guides and great value - Great experience climbing Huayni Potosi with South Treks and my guide, Felix. Would use ST again and recommend them to others. In summary - high quality guides and very trustworthy company who delivered an excellent service level at a low price-point. A few things to note up front - as others note in reviews, the HP trek is very challenging and many people do not make the summit, and for good reason. The altitude can be challenging - I struggled with it at both base camp (4700m) and high camp (5250m) - for this reason, the three day option is good for those needing to acclimatise. It can make you feel wiped out, sick, lose appetite. Don't underestimate the activities involved - walking up steep glaciers in campons for long distances, narrow passes and steep sections akin to ice climbing. You'll have to hop crevasse gaps and the final summit push is all jagged rocks which you have to do in heavy plastic boots (no crampons) which I found super challenging, I'm in decent physical condition and had spent a week at altitude prior, but stll only just made it and would say it is one of the hardest things I have ever done (I've run ultramarathons, half ironman triathlons etc.). Safety precautions taken by the guides are good (roped together, good instruction and route navigation) but do not be unaware: this is a risky ascent where you have to be super aware and careful. The equipment is fairly dated but did the job very well. The crampons were excellent and the waterproof outwear, harness, helmet, headlamp and sleeping bag included all worked very well (and all of this was included in the price). My only complaint is the plastic boots - some other companies use more modern, non plastic boots. I found them very heavy and I got bad blisters (I do have oddly shaped feet, so this is more my issue). I did my research before choosing ST and chose quality of guides and company over brand new equipment, and I'm glad I did. On the final day for the summit push, you set off with max 2 people per guide. The other person in my group had to turn back at c.5,400m altitude due to altitude sickness. This was managed well and he was taken down by another group. For the remaining hours, it was just my guide Felix and I. He is a super experienced mountaineer and I had full confidence in him, which was super important given how challenging various sections of the summit climb were - risky and dangerous sections if not navigated professionally. I always felt in safe hands, and the same was reported from others in my wider group with other ST guides. The accomodation is very basic - no phone signal (let alone wifi), outdoor toilet blocks, no showers and large dorm rooms. I found this all worked fine for me - I managed without showering (just take a few changes of clothes, incl. lots of socks) and the sleeping accomodation was comfortable enough for what you need. The food is hearty and plentiful, which is very important. Be aware - no water is provided so you need to buy bottled water, which is available at base camp. Nothing is available for sale at high camp, so you need to take water with you. The guides also boiled water and let it cool and allowed us to fill up bottles from that, so we had enough for the summit attempt. Bring plenty of snacks and sugary fuel for the hikes, you will need it and can't buy them once at base camp and beyond. At 900bs (just over £100 at the time of writing) for three days, all inclusive, this tour was excellent value. My experience from start to finish, from meeting the people in the ST office in La Paz, through to the transport, food and the guides was excellent I have no hesitation in recommending South Treks to others.

Fantastic experience. - Fantastic experience. The hardest I have ever done, but also the most rewarding. The guides are super! Especially Theo, what a guy. Would recommend you to book the tour at their office, near the witch market. Much cheaper.

Awesome Huayna Potosí Tour - The Huayna Potosí trek with South Treks was incredible! From start to finish, everything was seamless and they were always on hand to answer any questions. Our lead guide, Ramiro Ramirez, was brilliant—his energy, knowledge, and motivation helped us all reach the summit. Day 1 ice climbing was really fun, and the acclimation treks on days 2 was ideal ahead of day 3. The 1:2 guide ratio, great food, and solid accommodations made this all great value for money - shoutouts also to Feliciana, Gonzalez and Santos who were brilliant guides also! Reaching the summit was unforgettable!

Overall great experience! - Really great experience overall and we can definitely recommend south treks for huayna potosi! Equipment is not the best but still fine amd considering the cheap price of the tour fairly reasonable. They have the highest high camp reducing the ascent when summiting a little. Communication with your guide is important. We had a mixed experience with our guide Felix who didn't seem motivated to reach the top with us. In the end, we did though and everything turned out to be fine.
