As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, I found myself on the cusp of an adventure that promised to be as enlightening as it was awe-inspiring. The Astronomical Tour of the Milky Way Sanctuary in La Serena was a journey I had long anticipated, and as a biologist with a deep-seated love for the natural world, the prospect of exploring the universe from one of the best astrotourism observatories in Chile was irresistible.

Our journey began in the charming city of La Serena, where the Museo de Avenida Francisco de Aguirre set the stage with its marble statues and historical monuments. The avenue, a testament to the rich cultural tapestry of the region, was a fitting prelude to the cosmic wonders that awaited us. This region, one of the world’s most recognized astronomical hotspots, was a testament to the wonders of the universe and the importance of preserving such pristine environments.

The absence of light pollution at 1300 meters above sea level offered a clarity that was unparalleled.
