A Tropical Adventure Begins

As a former professional surfer, my life has always been about the ocean, the waves, and the thrill of the ride. But every now and then, I find myself drawn to the land, eager to explore the wonders that lie beyond the shoreline. This time, my journey took me to the lush landscapes of Lacovia, Saint Elizabeth, where the Jamaica Zoo promised an adventure unlike any other.

The moment I stepped into the zoo, I was enveloped by the vibrant greenery and the sounds of exotic animals. Owned by Mr. Paul Fearon, a man whose love for animals began at a young age, the zoo is a testament to his passion and dedication. With over 30 different animals and birds, the Jamaica Zoo is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and curious travelers alike.

As I wandered through the zoo, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of wonder and excitement. Each enclosure offered a glimpse into the lives of these magnificent creatures, from the majestic zebras to the playful llamas. It was a reminder of the beauty and diversity of our natural world, and I felt grateful for the opportunity to experience it firsthand.

Meeting the Residents

One of the highlights of my visit was meeting the zoo’s residents up close. The staff, knowledgeable and passionate, were eager to share their insights and stories about the animals. I learned about the zoo’s history, its beginnings in Santa Cruz, and the journey that led to its current location in Lacovia.

The zebras, with their striking black and white stripes, were a sight to behold. Imported by Mr. Fearon in 2001, they have become one of the zoo’s main attractions. Watching them graze peacefully in their enclosure, I was reminded of the wild savannas of Africa, a place I’ve always dreamed of visiting.

The llamas, on the other hand, were full of personality. Their curious eyes and gentle demeanor made them a favorite among visitors, myself included. As I stood there, watching them interact with each other, I couldn’t help but smile at their playful antics.

As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the zoo, I took a moment to reflect on my day. The Jamaica Zoo had offered me a glimpse into a world I rarely get to see, a world filled with wonder and beauty.
