For the Romans, Cape St. Vincent was the ‘Edge of the World,’ a mystical place where the setting sun seemed to be swallowed by the vast, unknown ocean. Even today, the setting sun can appear larger and brighter at Cape St. Vincent. This myth persisted through the Middle Ages until Prince Henry the Navigator dispelled it, marking the end of the Age of Darkness.
