A Warm Welcome to the Algarve

As a travel writer and a mother of three, I am always on the lookout for family-friendly adventures that offer both fun and a touch of education. When I heard about the Algarve Wine Tour in Lagos, I was intrigued. The idea of exploring the beautiful Algarve region, with its rich history and stunning landscapes, while also indulging in some of the finest wines, seemed like a perfect blend of relaxation and learning.

Our journey began with a warm welcome from our guide, Brodie, who immediately set the tone for the day with his infectious enthusiasm and a playlist of classic tunes. His ‘rustic’ van, as he fondly called it, was our chariot for the day, and it was clear from the start that this was going to be a memorable experience. Brodie’s focus on ensuring everyone had a good time was evident, and his laid-back, ‘chill’ vibe made us all feel at ease.

Exploring the Wineries

Our first stop was the Quinta Do Frances Winery, a picturesque location nestled in the heart of the Algarve. As we arrived, we were greeted with refreshing Mimosas, a delightful touch that set the mood for the rest of the visit. The winery itself was a sight to behold, with its lush vineyards and charming architecture. We had the opportunity to sample three exquisite wines, each with its own unique flavor profile, and learn about the winemaking process from the knowledgeable staff.

The second winery, Quinta dos Vales Wine Estate, offered a different experience altogether. Known for its stunning sculptures and artistic flair, this winery was a feast for the senses. We wandered through the beautifully landscaped grounds, admiring the art installations and enjoying the serene atmosphere. The wine tastings here were optional, but the setting alone was worth the visit. It was a wonderful opportunity to relax and soak in the beauty of the Algarve.

A Picnic in Nature

One of the highlights of the tour was our visit to the Parque Municipal do Sítio das Fontes, a hidden gem that offered a perfect blend of nature and tranquility. Brodie had prepared a beautiful tapas-style picnic, which we enjoyed at picnic tables under the shade of a tree. The fresh air, coupled with the delicious food and the company of fellow travelers, made for a truly memorable experience.

The park itself was a haven for exploration, with walking trails that meandered along the Arcade River. For those feeling adventurous, there were exercise points and even the option for a refreshing swim in the freshwater. It was a wonderful way to connect with nature and unwind after a day of wine tasting.

As we made our way back to Lagos, I couldn’t help but reflect on the day’s adventures.
