A Warm Welcome to the Wild

As a museum curator with a penchant for creating interactive exhibits for children, I have always been fascinated by the natural world and its wonders. So, when the opportunity arose to embark on a 5-day safari in Kenya, I knew it was an adventure my family and I couldn’t resist. Our afternoon was spent on a boat safari, gliding across the tranquil waters of Lake Naivasha. The boat trip offered a unique perspective of the lake’s rich biodiversity, with sightings of hippos, flamingos, and a variety of bird species. We disembarked at Crescent Island for a walking safari, where we wandered among giraffes, gazelles, and wildebeests. Our final destination was the Maasai Mara National Reserve, a place that had long been on my travel bucket list. We arrived at the Enka Kenya camp, where the setting was nothing short of spectacular. The tents were luxurious, with the most comfortable beds and impeccable service from the staff, led by the ever-gracious Daniel.

The Maasai Mara did not disappoint, with its extraordinary density of wildlife and breathtaking vistas. Our game drives were filled with awe-inspiring moments, from witnessing the great migration of wildebeests to observing the majestic Big Five in their natural habitat. The picnic lunch amidst the savannah was a memorable experience, as was the sundowner on our final evening, where we toasted to the beauty of Africa under a sky painted with the colors of the setting sun.
