Fishing trip from San Jose to Lake Arenal. - This was a great trip. We drove from San Jose and enjoyed the drive to La Fortuna. We opted for the 1pm slot. Take local currency for any tolls. Its usually no mor than a few dollars each way. The sandwiches they provided were amazing. Our guides put us on some beautiful fish. He was extremely knowledgeable about the lake and surrounding region, He provided some background on the reforesting efforts and how they came to be cleared. It did rain on us but don't expect to spend the day without rain in a rain forest. 🙂 The drive back to San Jose was a bit longer at night. It was worth the drive. Excellent tour guide.

Fun day on the lake! - Our guides were FANTASTIC! They knew the places to go to get the most fish, and along the way told us about the volcano, flora, fauna and animals in the area.

Tour with Elvis - He was the King - Took this tour on March 6, 2020 with our tour guide named Elvis. He was really knowledgeable and personable. His brain was like a walking Costa Rican enclopedia. He took me from a zero to a hero in Costa Rican knowledge in one day. Tour was great fun. Got to do Ziplining thorough the rainforest, horseback riding, mud baths, natural hot springs, water slide, wildlife watching including monkeys, and sovenier shopping at the cheapest place in the area. I think this tour is not appropriate for younger children since they will not be able to safely do many of the activities. The tour was from 7:45am to 4:30pm with pickup and drop off at the hotel. We were a small group of 4 and paid $135US each. I saw another tour company with a group of 20 people which I was glad I did not pick. If you have an action camera such as a GoPro I highly recommend you bring it because you will be getting great action shots on the Zipline & waterslide (much more intense than it looks). I brought a drone for aerial shots but there was too much heavy tree cover to get an adequate take off site. Lunch is included but alcohol is extra. All round, I highly recommend this trip and request Elvis if you can as I would give him an A+ in the guiding department. He saved me about $100US in sovenier costs alone.

Honeymooners - Our tour guide, Herman, and driver, Luis, picked us up from Secrets Papagayo. We were the only ones on the tour which turned out to be fantastic. Both guides were very knowledgable and friendly. Herman knew almost everyone who worked at the attraction we visited and everyone joked with him. We got to do a few extra things not listed in the description like taste some Cacique moonshine and eat some traditional pastries made onsite. We got to move at our own pace and that made us very happy because we didn't have to wait on a large group to catch up to us. Herman offered to stop along the way home at a nice gift shop but we were so exhausted that we passed. I would've paid to have him take us all around the area. We felt very safe the whole time and as someone who has done many excursions in Central America/the Carribean before I would say this one was on parr with the best of them when it comes to value for your money. This was our only excursion on our 5 day trip to Guanacaste and it did not disappoint!

A day out of the resort - Keep in mind that a 5 star in Costa Rica might not be the same in another country. The Package is nice. The horses drive themselves and there is literally nothing to do. The “culture” discovery is a dark roast coffee tasting camping style (and it tastes like it), an ox grinding a sugar cane, and a pottery making sit down where you watch a dude make a pot. In contrast, the water slide is long and fast and the 7 zip lines are cool. Zip #4 is the longest. Fun little entertainment to get out of your overpriced resort. Roughly Back to your place by 4pm.

Maybe next time - The guide and I fished hard, but no luck. We tried several different lures. I suspect that any fish were deep. Maybe next time.
