- Lake Louise - The Stoney Nakoda (Native American) referred to Lake Louise as Ho-run-num-nay, meaning “lake of the little fishes.” It was a Stoney guide who led Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) worker Tom Wilson to the site in 1882. Wilson initially named it Emerald Lake, but in 1884, the name was changed to honor Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria and wife of the Governor General, the Marquess of Lorne.
At this stop, visitors will discover the story of Tom Wilson, the first guide in Banff National Park, as well as a member of Steele’s Scouts Commemorative Militia Cavalry, who played a role in quelling Louis Riel’s North-West Rebellion.
- Bow Lake - Bow Lake is situated at an elevation of 1920 meters and remains frozen for most of the year. It serves as the source of the Bow River, which flows through Banff, Canmore, and Calgary.
During the stop at Bow Lake, visitors will learn about Jimmy Simpson, a significant guide, outfitter, lodge operator, hunter, naturalist, and artist in the Canadian Rockies. His story is about a legendary figure who climbed some of the highest peaks in the range and guided leading scientists, mountaineers, big-game hunters, and world-renowned artists through breathtaking scenery, entertaining thousands at his famous lodge at Bow Lake.
- Peyto Lake - Before being named Peyto, the lake was known as Doghead Lake, due to its resemblance from any high vantage point near its south end looking north. It was renamed in honor of guide/outfitter Bill Peyto, who later became one of Canada’s first Banff National Park wardens.
The panoramic lookout is incredibly beautiful.
- Athabasca Glacier - Nestled in the Canadian Rockies, the Athabasca Glacier is one of the region’s most cherished attractions. This icy wonder draws visitors from all over the country, partly due to its proximity to the Icefields Parkway, making it easily accessible.
