If you are booking a tour that begins after midnight, please ensure you have selected the correct date. For example, if your tour starts at 12:30am on January 1st, it will occur on the night between December 31st and January 1st, so you will need to be in Lake Tekapo on December 31st. If you are uncertain about the date and time, please send us an email.

The meeting point is 70 Andrew Don Drive, you will need to drive on a gravel road for 200 meters, then you will see a sign with a red light that says ”Chameleon Stargazing”, you need to turn right at the sign and enter the gate marked with 2 road cones.

It was pretty nice... - It was pretty nice experience. Seeing all the stars and galaxies. Obviously the experience will vary a lot depending on the weather. We had a great time though. It was great experiencing the stars through naked and telescopic eyes!

Nice informative outing at night - Very friendly, simple nice informative outing. Was partly cloudy, so may not have got the best visual experience, but they were kind enough for a partial refund

Be immersed with the stars!! - We went as a family of 9… not really knowing what to expect. Our host (I forgot his name unfortunately) was so passionate that we all were transported to his world of stars and planets. His explanation was clear and entertaining and humorous. I have zero knowledge of the stars and galaxies but his presentation kept me intrigued the whole “tour”.
It was cold but we were warm in our comfortable deck chairs under blankets sipping hot chocolate.
We also got to see the stars using the telescopes and it was amazing!!!
Thoroughly enjoyed this
One point to note…. We went in summer 10:30pm tour, so there is twilight which does last for a little while (not the fault of the tour… it’s just what it is) so my advice is if u can stay awake, the later in the night tours I imagine would be even more spectacular

Must do experience - Beautiful experience. Truly mesmerising to be under all the stars outdoors. So informative and we loved the marshmallow roasting at the end too.

Two Thumbs Up. WAY UP! - Cannot rave enough about our experience with Chameleon Stargazing Tours. We just had our experience on 11/26/24. I researched many options and ultimately chose this group --
1. Provided chairs, blankets, hot cocoa to listen to the guide and view the night skies
2. Provided 2 unique telescopes for different experiences
3. They took a photo of us which we couldn't capture ourselves (we forgot to bring a tripod).
The guide was very knowledgeable and we felt the whole experience was top notch. I highly recommend this group!

Personalised service and passionate guides - Special experience. If the opportunity presents, you simply have to go stargazing in Tekapo. You’re in a dark sky reserve and what you can see out there is mind boggling. Chameleon have incredible, personalised tours with small groups and passionate guides (thank you Adria!) so you immersed in the experience from the outset. Also how can you say no to a hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows under a camp fire to end the night. Superb.

Best tour ever! - This was the best tour we ever did. We love astronomy and stargazing so we were already very excited. We read lots of positive reviews about the tour at Chameleon so decided to book this tour. When we arrived our guides were very friendly! Erik explained a lot to us and he knew so much about the stars, planets and everything else. We also got pictures of the things we saw through the telescopes which is pretty awesome. Thanks for the amazing night!

Tekapo on Stargazing forehand - We were blessed with great weather, we could see the stars and Milky Way and so on and it was a wonderful experience.
