Discovering Lakones: A Family Adventure

Our journey began in the quaint village of Lakones, perched high above the Ionian Sea. As a family, we are always on the lookout for destinations that offer both educational and entertaining experiences, and Lakones did not disappoint. The cobblestone streets and traditional architecture immediately transported us back in time, providing a perfect backdrop for our exploration.

The highlight of our visit to Lakones was undoubtedly the Bella Vista Viewpoint. Standing there, with the heart-shaped Paleokastritsa Bay stretching out before us, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe. The panoramic views were breathtaking, and it was a joy to watch our children marvel at the natural beauty surrounding them. We took countless photos, each one capturing a different aspect of the stunning landscape.

After soaking in the views, we wandered through the village, stopping at George’s Cellar for a taste of local cuisine. The warm hospitality and delicious food made for a memorable experience, and it was a wonderful opportunity to introduce our children to the flavors of Corfu.

Exploring Paleokastritsa: A Jewel of the Ionian

Our next stop was Paleokastritsa, a place often referred to as the “Jewel of the Ionian.” The pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters were a sight to behold, and we couldn’t resist the temptation to dip our toes in the sea. The Paleokastritsa Monastery, perched atop a hill, was another highlight of our visit. Dating back to the 13th century, the monastery offered stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Captivating Kanoni and Corfu Old Town

Our adventure continued in Kanoni, a captivating area known for its breathtaking views and historical charm. From the hilltop, we enjoyed a panoramic perspective of the iconic Vlacherna Monastery and Mouse Island. The scene was like something out of a postcard, and we spent a leisurely afternoon taking in the sights.

One of the unique aspects of Kanoni is its proximity to the airport, allowing us to witness the fascinating sight of planes landing and taking off. It was an unexpected delight for the kids, who watched in awe as the aircrafts soared overhead.

Finally, we made our way to Corfu Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site that perfectly encapsulates the island’s cultural diversity. The narrow alleys and pastel-colored buildings were a joy to explore, and we spent hours wandering through the historic streets. The Old and New Fortresses provided a glimpse into Corfu’s storied past, and the vibrant markets offered a taste of local life.

As we strolled along the Liston Promenade, lined with charming cafes, I couldn’t help but reflect on the incredible journey we had experienced. Corfu had offered us a perfect blend of natural beauty, history, and cultural richness, making it an ideal destination for families seeking both adventure and education.
