My impression in Lalibela - Our 2023 journey to Lalibela, Ethiopia, was an unforgettable experience. This ancient UNESCO World Heritage Site is a testament to human ingenuity and spiritual devotion. My wife and I spent three days exploring the city's rich history and marveling at its iconic rock-cut churches. We visited 11 of the famous churches, including the awe-inspiring Bet Medhane Alem, the world's largest monolithic church. Its sheer size and intricate carvings left us speechless. We were privileged to attend Kidase, a Sunday celebration within this magnificent structure. The vibrant atmosphere and deep spirituality of the service were truly inspiring. Beyond Bet Medhane Alem, we explored several other remarkable churches, each with its own unique charm. Ashete Mariam, a smaller but equally impressive church located outside the main cluster, offered a peaceful and serene setting. We were captivated by the intricate details of the carvings and the sense of history that permeated the walls. Lalibela is a destination that offers a glimpse into Ethiopia's rich cultural heritage. The ancient architecture, spiritual atmosphere, and stunning craftsmanship of the churches are truly awe-inspiring. Our visit to Lalibela was a journey through time, a testament to the enduring spirit of human creativity and faith. Our Lalibela visit was truly memorable thanks to our knowledgeable and friendly local guide, Mulugeta. A passionate guide and economist by profession with additional training in tourism, Mulugeta's enthusiasm for Lalibela's history was evident in his insightful explanations. His fluency in Amharic, English, and German allowed him to connect with visitors from diverse backgrounds.

Gorgeous Rock-hewn church! - We had a short trip in lalibela with Ethio Backpacker Tours and visit the second Jerusalem Lalibela. We like the rock cut churches of lalibela and all the peoples are religious. It's very appreciated that Gashw organized our trip very carefully and the guide we met in lalibela is also fantastic. We have a plan to comeback sooner as possible.
