An unforgettable experience! - My 13-year old son and I went on a mother-son trip to see orangutans in Bukit Lawang, and I couldn't be happier with the 3-day package. We were picked up from the Kualanamu airport by our driver, Berlin. The drive was easy and smooth, and one can tell very quickly that Berlin is an experienced, reliable driver. The car was clean and brand new, and he made the 4-hour drive to Bukit Lawang very comfortable. On the day of the hike, we saw many orangutans -- one mother with baby, one 40-year old male, and many others swinging between branches -- a few long-tailed Thomas monkeys, a family of pig-tailed monkeys, a monitor lizard, macaque monkeys. We also heard a herd of gibbons singing from afar, but we couldn't see them. It was an amazing experience. They were gentle and healthy, and we felt so lucky to be able to see orangutans in the wild. Our guides, Helmi and Anto, were fun, cheerful, knowledgeable, and respectful. They knew where to walk to help us spot the orangutans, and they prepared a scrumptious array of fruits (mangosteens, rambutans, passionfruits, bananas, oranges, watermelon) for our snacks, and some nasi goreng served in banana leaves for our lunch. The hike itself was smooth, but there are no paved walks/steps and some parts are steep and slippery. We enjoyed the challenge, but I imagine this could be difficult for people with mobility and balance issues, especially after it rains. We took the "jungle raft" down the river, which was so much fun! I had worried that the ride would be bumpy, but the water was relatively calm. We got wet, but our clothes dried off within less than an hour as we walked around afterwards. Compared to other, more touristy parts I've seen in Indonesia, I was so impressed by how clean the river was. We saw the batcave immediately thereafter. We didn't spend too much time here, but we enjoyed the climb into the cave, the trees, and the stalactites and stalagmites we saw in the cave. On the final day, Dedi took us on a tour of the village, where we saw demonstrations of how people make tofu, weave thatched roofs, and cook brown sugar. We topped off the tour with a drink of fresh coconut juice and ate some ubi goreng under the trees, before heading back to our villa, before Berlin took us back to Kualanamu airport. All in all, it was a remarkable experience. I wish we had booked for a longer stay, where we could stay overnight in the jungle. Next time!

Authentic and local exclusive tour - We spent 3 days with Sumatra Orangutan treks. The tour is local and the guides are locals from Sumatra. Compared to other tours, the tour is quite exclusive. We were two people with a guide and his son. Amet taught us many things about flora and fauna. We had the chance to see 5 orangutans. The bungalow was comfortable and the jungle view very relaxing. They have a restaurant where the food was great! We thank Chef Linda for her good food. The staff is super smiling. Big Daddy, the manager is very caring and will make your stay super pleasant:-) If you want an authentic and local experience, which supports local tourism, Sumatra Orangutan treks will meet your expectations. Thanks Big Daddy, Amet, Asri, Linda and all the staff for this wonderful experience.

Couldn’t recommend more - I’ve done the jungle immersion with Amat and Amso in August 2023 and was amazing, they are both very knowledgeable about the jungle and the orangutans, but are also super friendly. I went alone and a driver picked me up at the airport and drove me to the lodge, and the same on my day back. The guys bring food prepared for the meals and loads of fruit for snacking along the trek, everything was great. I was in a group of 4 and slept in a improv tent with mattresses and mesh nets.

Great Tours and Hospitality at Sumatra Orangutan Treks!" - My girlfriend and I recently spent two nights at Sumatra Orangutan Treks and we absolutely love our experience! The cottage was beautiful and spotless, which really added to the comfort of our stay. We enjoyed a jungle trek, a bat caves tour and a village tour, all fantastically organised and informative thanks to our wonderful guide, Helmi Mowgli. He was incredibly kind and knowledgeable, and really contributed to our unforgettable experience. We also saw Orangutans up close, very impressive! The food was also excellent - delicious and well prepared. We would highly recommend Sumatra Orangutan Treks to anyone looking for an adventure experience in Sumatra. Thank you to the whole team for making our stay so special!

Adventure to remember!! - Together with a friend I started this adventure. We have done several trips like Bat caves, jungle trekking and to a village. The whole experience was so special. I have travelled a lot and this is my most beautiful experience yet. The owners / guides are friendly everything is arranged to perfection and yes a nice spacious lunch! If you book these trips I would say check booking.com for the stays they offer because wow....Also the cottage is super clean with air conditioning, spacious bathroom and beautiful views. The guide Helmi our Mowgli of the jungle did everything to spot animals in the jungle. We saw 5 Orangutans up close!! And that was just the beginning of what we all got to see. At the end of the trips we got a super nice keepsake. I recommend this trip 100%!!

Perfect Tour with excellent Tourguides in the Jungle! - It was a very nice trekking trip with 2 very cool guides (Tondi and BamBang). We were perfectly accompanied through the jungle and were able to see many other monkeys in addition to the orangutans. During the trip there were plenty of fruits to snack on and a decent meal at any time of the day. In the evening the cooks prepared a delicious meal in the camp. Big thanks to the cooks Wamda and Amto. The camps were very idyllic and perfect for resting at night. It was very tiring, but a very nice experience.

Unbelievable! Unforgettable! Amazing! - Unbelievable! Unforgettable! Amazing! Our jungle adventure was so much fun! We saw two mama orangutans with babies. Took many photos. Saw Thomas’s leaf monkeys. They are friendly and are not afraid to get very close to people. To keep us safe, our jungle experts kept a close eye on our interactions. From the moment we arrived, we loved every minute with our jungle experts 😁. Always happy, energetic, knowledgeable, helpful, attentive,….The bungalow was a jaw dropping gorgeous, spacious surrounded by beautiful grounds. Restaurant was amazingly convenient. Great menu! Those 3 days went by so fast. We wanted more. I think a week would have been a better choice. This experience was truly one of a kind.
