Discovering the Charm of Las Playitas

Our adventure began with a comfortable minibus ride, setting the tone for a day filled with exploration and discovery. As we made our way to the first stop, the aloe vera plantation, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement. The kids were equally thrilled, eager to learn about the plant’s healing properties and its significance to the local economy. The plantation was a delightful surprise, offering a hands-on experience that was both educational and engaging for the whole family.

Next, we visited the polka-dotted Moorish-influenced lighthouse overlooking Las Playitas beach. The view was nothing short of spectacular, with the azure waters stretching as far as the eye could see. The kids were fascinated by the lighthouse’s unique design, and we spent some time exploring the area, taking in the breathtaking scenery. Our journey continued to the charming fishing village of Ajuy, where we were greeted by the sight of chalk cliffs overlooking a stunning black beach. The final leg of our journey took us on a scenic drive through the mountains to the whitewashed colonial town of Betancuria. We visited St Mary’s church, where the simple exterior belied a richly decorated interior that left us in awe. The kids were fascinated by the intricate details and the stories behind the church’s history. Our day concluded with a cheese-tasting session at a nearby goat farm, followed by a visit to the cheese museum in Antigua. It was a delightful end to a day filled with adventure, learning, and family bonding.
