Highlights
  • Leshan Giant Buddha (Da Fo) - Start your day by meeting your knowledgeable and friendly personal guide in the lobby of your Chengdu Downtown hotel in the morning. You’ll then be transferred in an air-conditioned vehicle to the Leshan Giant Buddha, a journey of approximately 2.5 hours. Relax and enjoy the scenic countryside views along the way.

As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the construction of the Leshan Buddha began in 713 during the Tang Dynasty and was completed in 803, taking over 90 years to carve. Thousands of workers dedicated their efforts and wisdom to this project. The Giant Buddha, the largest carved stone Buddha in the world, has been immortalized in poetry, song, and story.

Follow your tour guide to explore the entire area and view the Buddha from various perspectives.

  • Lingyun Temple - Your first stop is Lingyun Temple, located behind the Grand Buddha’s head. Marvel at the intricate construction of the Buddha’s coiled hair, made up of around 1,020 twisted buns. Inside, admire the detailed sculptures and wall designs of the temple. Enjoy panoramic views of the three rivers converging below.

Next, follow your guide on a 30-minute walk down the left side of the Grand Buddha. At the bottom, be awed by the 233-foot (71-meter) height of the world’s largest carved Buddha and capture stunning photographs of this sacred site.

  • Wuyou Temple - Continue to the right side of the Buddha to explore Wuyou Temple, which houses numerous terra-cotta sculptures and calligraphic paintings.

Stroll around the temple with your guide to learn more about Buddhism.

If the line to Wuyou Temple is too long, you will take a river cruise for a panoramic view of the Giant Buddha instead.

Afterwards, head back to Chengdu City.

  • Wenshu Yuan Monastery - Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Your tour guide will introduce several landmarks, shopping areas, and activities in Chengdu City. Discuss with your guide to decide where you want to go.

Typically, you will visit Wenshu Yuan Monastery.

Wenshu Yuan Monastery is the best-preserved Buddhist temple in the city, featuring hundreds of bronze, wooden, and stone statues, as well as Buddhist relics. Since the Tang Dynasty (618-907), over 500 pieces of painting and calligraphy by celebrities have been stored here.

Stroll around the courtyard with your guide to learn about Buddhism in China. See how locals pray with incense, admire various cultural relics, and explore the exquisite garden and solemn halls.

  • Wuhou Memorial Temple - Next, visit the Wuhou Memorial Temple, built in the 6th century to honor Emperor Liu Bei and Prime Minister Zhuge Liang of the Shu Kingdom.

Follow your guide to explore significant buildings, including the Temple of Liu Bei, the Temple of Zhuge Liang, Sanyi Temple, and the Tomb of Liu Bei.

Learn about the histories and stories behind these sites.

  • Kuanzhai Alley - Continue to Kuanzhai Alley, a popular entertainment and nightlife area with traditional Chinese-style buildings.

Explore the area with your guide to learn about Chengdu’s folk culture and local life. Visit Well Alley, which showcases the new life of Chengdu people and is the most open, diverse, and dynamic zone in the area.

You can choose to end your tour here and explore on your own, or your guide can take you back to your hotel in Chengdu City to conclude the tour.
