- Leshan Giant Buddha (Da Fo) - The Leshan Giant Buddha is an impressive 71-meter (233 ft) tall stone statue, constructed between 713 and 803 during the Tang dynasty, representing Maitreya. It is intricately carved from a cliff of Cretaceous red bed sandstones at the meeting point of the Min River and Dadu River in southern Sichuan province, China, near Leshan city. The statue faces Mount Emei, with rivers flowing beneath its feet. It holds the title of the largest and tallest stone Buddha statue globally and is the tallest pre-modern statue worldwide. The Mount Emei Scenic Area, which includes the Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area, has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. Visitors can either climb the mountain or take a boat to view the Buddha. To help manage costs, tickets are not included and can be purchased upon arrival. Guests over 65 years old may receive discounted or free tickets.
