ALESUND TO 🧌 - Fabulous day, even though the weather was not great. We had a new bus with comfy seats and a lady bus driver who was very confident driving up the mountain roads which recently had snow on it. The tour guide was very informative and had good English. Very good value for the price

Almost perfect - We had a great tour. Due to snow on the final party of our journey, our tour was altered. Don't do this tour the last week of September. Apparently that's winter in Norway. I understand this was no one's fault but it was disappointing that we didn't make it to Trollstigen or get to travel all those hair pin turns. However Cian made the tour well worth it. He was full of fun facts and knowledge. We still saw many beautiful sights, more than I could have possibly seen on my own. And our driver Anika was a Puerto and made us feel very safe on the same narrow roads. Overall it was as close to perfect as could be.

All I can say is I took the excursion - It was a chilly, dreary and drizzly day. You couldn’t see anything. Because of the weather, we couldn’t travel the Troll Road. We didn’t see any Trolls. We didn’t see any breathtaking views. The Tourist Center was closed. Perhaps on another day. But it was a bust. Of course that’s at due to Mother Nature. So it just made for an average excursion.

Good Tour with a Bad Description - The Land of Trolls sightseeing tour offered us a beautiful opportunity to see this area of Norway. It included stops at waterfalls , mountain tops, and a lovely spot with views for lunch. Sometimes the views were obstructed by the rain and clouds but that’s the reality of Norway. There were a couple of issues which included the closure of the road with the hairpin turns. It has been this way since June 2024 and is indefinite for at least the next year or so. So the description is not accurate. Our tour guide was lackluster. He could have used our time together by providing more information about the area’s geography and the lifestyles of its inhabitants.

Mountain trip that was changed due to snow on the upper mountian road. - Unfortunately the upper road to the scenic point was closed due to snow. The tour leader said we would receive a refund for the tour. The coach was to leave the cruise pier at noon. The tour leader said we had to wait a little while to see if the road could be cleared and the tour would continue as described. It was raining and I didn't want to stand outside so she allowed us to wait in one of the buses. At 1300 there was still no word that the road was open. She told us to wait a little longer and they would know in the next 15 minutes if we could use the upper mountain road. At 1330 she told use that the road still wasn't open and we could stay with the tour knowing there would be a shortened trip and we would receive a partial refund. What we did see once we got out of the city was nice. I would not recommend this trip for visitors in October. Please send me my refund

Pretty good. - Not their fault but the trip was only partial due to snow. Then the bus broke down but another one arrived in 45 minutes. Luckily had plenty of time before the ship left. But the views were awesome.

Tour not as described - I travelled to Ålesund on 5th October 2024 aboard the Caribbean Princess cruise ship. The cruise line did not offer a shore excursion to Trollstigen, so I booked with Viator. The description of Viator’s "Trollstigen - Land of Trolls sightseeing tour" featured a stunning photograph of 11 hairpin bends on the Trollstigen road. It mentioned "magnificent views from the photo stop at Trollstigen Plateau" and said, “Food and drinks can be bought in the shop/cafeteria" [at the Plateau]. It also listed other photo stops at Kokarsteinen, Gudbrandsjuvet, Stigfossen Waterfall and the Troll Wall/Trollvegen. I booked the tour on 14th September. The booking confirmation and subsequent emails from Viator did not mention any changes and their message, timed at 08:48 on 4th October confirmed the itinerary. But less than three hours later, a final email said, “Probably many of you have heard it already, but the Trollstigen Road is closed. Yet, do not despair! The so called Trollstigen Road is only one stretch of the road. The tour is still running as we reach the viewpoint that is on top of the road from the south. You'll still see all the sights (except, unfortunately, the Trollwall) and have a wonderful view of the road even if you won't be driving through it.” As far as the tour was concerned, some of the scenery was spectacular. However, I chose this tour, because I really wanted to see and experience the descent through the hairpins on the Trollstigen road. Unfortunately, the weather was really unpleasant at the Trollstigen Plateau with strong winds and driving sleet. I couldn’t even see any part the closed roadway and the coach couldn't visit the Stigefossen Waterfall or the Trollwall. Furthermore, everything at the plateau was closed, including the shop/cafeteria and the public restrooms. I subsequently discovered that the Trollstigen Road had actually been closed since 12th June, due to the risk of rockslides. The tour operators must have known about the closure, when they accepted my reservation. So why didn’t Viator advise me about the closure until it was too late for me to make alternative arrangements for my visit to Ålesund? Viator’s booking conditions offer a full refund for cancellations at least 24 hours in advance of the start time of the experience. If I had known about the road closure, I would have cancelled. However, notification of the change arrived less than 24 hours before departure.
