Lhasa Sightseeing: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street

Potala Palace - Begin the day with a visit to the renowned Potala Palace, exploring its vast chapels, audience halls, jeweled and golden burial chortens (stupa tombs) of past Dalai Lamas, and numerous Buddhist frescoes, thangkas, and mandalas.

Jokhang Temple - In the afternoon, visit the sacred Jokhang Temple, a revered site for Tibetan Buddhists. This architectural marvel combines Tibetan, Tang, Nepalese, and Indian styles, representing a timeless symbol of Tibetan religious architecture.

Barkhor Street - After visiting Jokhang Temple, enjoy a leisurely stroll around it in a clockwise direction, explore the handicraft market on Barkhor Street, or simply wander the streets, soaking in the warmth of the Sunlight City. Alternatively, relax in a charming tea house and experience the leisurely lifestyle of Tibetan locals.

Lhasa-Yamdrok Lake-Karola Glacier-Shigatse

Yamdrok Yumtso Lake - Depart from Lhasa in the morning and drive to Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet’s three sacred lakes. As the highest freshwater lake in the world, at an altitude of 4,441 meters, Yamdrok Lake offers breathtaking views of its deep blue waters merging with distant snow-capped mountains, distinctive Tibetan villages, and herds of cattle and sheep. Experience peace and joy along the journey.

Karo La Glacier - In the afternoon, pass by the majestic Karola Glacier, witnessing its grandeur and ethereal clouds. Arrive at the heroic city of Tibet, Gyantse County, and view the Gyantse Fortress from afar. Continue across the Gyantse Plain to reach Shigatse, an important town in western Tibet.

Shigatse—Tingri—EBC

Rongbuk Monastery - Travel westward along the Friendship Highway to Tingri. The journey from Tingri to Rongbuk is approximately 90 km, passing through wild grasslands, rapid rivers, and high mountains. On clear days, glimpse four mountains over 8,000 meters high, including Mt. Lhotse (8,516m), Mt. Everest (8,848m), Mt. Qowowuyag (8,201m), and Mt. Makalu (8,463m).

EBC—Tingri—Shigatse

Mount Everest - Witness the sunrise over Mt. Everest from Rongbuk in the early morning. Afterward, take a local bus or trek to Everest Base Camp, which takes about 1.5 to 2 hours one way. The trek is interesting and warmer, though breathing can be challenging. Capture stunning photos of Mt. Everest from the top of the photo point. Later, return from EBC to Tingri via highway and back to Shigatse.
