- Oropendola Waterfall - Our day begins at 8:00 AM with a 25-minute drive from downtown Liberia, passing through the quaint villages of Colorado and Curubande. We’ll make a brief stop at a local “Soda” to enjoy Costa Rican coffee, bread, and fruits before continuing for another 10 minutes to our first destination: La Oropendola Waterfall, located on the slopes of the Rincon de la Vieja volcano.
Upon arrival, we’ll be ready for a refreshing swim in the Oropendola Waterfall. The trail to the waterfall is a 500-meter single track, making a round trip of 1 km. The Oropendola Waterfall cascades an impressive 82 feet (25 meters) into a bright turquoise pool set in the lush, picturesque canyon of the Rio Blanco (White River).
- La Leona Waterfall - After spending half an hour at La Oropendola Waterfall, we will proceed to our second destination: La Leona Waterfall. This hidden gem is located on the outskirts of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. The trail to La Leona is a 1.7-mile (2.7-kilometer) single track, totaling 6 km round trip.
The hike involves some elevation gain and traversing through caves. To reach the waterfall, we will need to swim 25 meters.
After exploring La Leona Waterfall, we will head to Poza La Pipa (La Pipa Pools) in Curubande, where the Blanco and Colorado rivers intersect, forming canyons and stunning scenery. The pools here are known for their special turquoise hue.
- Curubande - Following our waterfall adventures, we will return to downtown Curubande to enjoy a traditional Costa Rican lunch.
