Great Lima Day trip - Dune buggy rides through the dunes were the highlight for sure. Be aware that there’s a lot of time spent on a bus! Our tour guide amRoberto was excellent! Nice way to spend a day.

Great experience thanks Arturo! - Really amazing experience - the dune buggy’s and the sand boarding were the best! Arturo was a brilliant guide and very informative. Thank you! Ps. If you’re thinking of doing the skiing it is not as fun as the sand boarding

Worth the trip! - Very enjoyable overall! The two hours long speed boat ride takes you to the rocky islands, inhabited by millions of birds, pelicans, and penguins. You ride very close to sea lions. It is a great half a day trip. Huacachina Oasis sand dunes were also very fun. The bus ride is very long in both directions. The seats are close together and recline very far. This caused a few conflicts in both directions. The dune rides are a lot like roller coasters. Be sure to buckle up tight and have valuables secure, not in your pockets. A few people complained about sore backs and tailbones after the trip. Guides and drivers are fantastic. Diana was super and very helpful. Some of the communications on the bus were difficult to understand. Enjoy!

Great experience let down by guide - The sand boarding and island tour itself was good, the disappointment was with the guide. Gave very little information in general about the day itself, taken to a coffee shop which took twice as long, taken to a restaurant for limited lunch options without being told of other eateries and time limit. Gave no insight at all about the sights.

Very disappointed with "Instagram" Dune Buggies - This excursion had potential but didn't meet expectations. (After having rented ATVs at Pismo Beach in California where you have free reign to have as much fun as you like on sand dunes driving yourself, this excursion was a waste of time.) FACTS: - pickup was scheduled for 5:30am at the Marriott and the bus was 45 minutes late - travel time is LONG (3-4 hours each way) and comfort will vary with your height on the "luxury" bus - the boat tour at Paracas involved all 50 people in the bus shifting to a boat; the town is very touristy - on the boat we saw birds eating sardines, more birds, lots of guano (big Peruvian industry), 4 sea lions on a buoy and a total of 2 penguins; the most interesting part might have been the rock formations of the islands - then lunch involved 50 people entering a restaurant at the same time, many with pre-ordered food, and the quality is what you would expect in a tourist town under those conditions - next was the ride to the sand dunes at Huacachina which was the only reason that we took this tour - the dune buggies looked impressive but that was about it - we set out (driver was Beto) over almost entirely *level* territory and then stopped for about 30 minutes so that people could take photos around the buggies (which is not why I was there) - once we started again we went over more mostly *level* territory to the top of the sand boarding dune (Where's the dune buggy excitement? We didn't have it.) - the sand boarding hill was not that tall so it was meh. Then we had to walk over to slide down two even smaller dunes which weren't worth the bother. Even with the walking delay we had to wait another 20-25 minutes for Beto to show up with the buggy; he had plenty of time to meet us at the bottom of the 3 hills. More time wasted. - then we went over mostly *level* sand to a non-scenic point to watch the sun set for another 30 minutes! As a photographer I would normally enjoy this but the point chosen was as non-scenic as one could imagine with nothing but dune buggy tracks in the foreground. (Surprisingly, we did not stop at all where we could see the actual oasis which perhaps may not be surprising given that it is the staging area for all of the activities which makes it kind've unsightly.) - finally we drove back to the staging area and during this time I had about 2.5 minutes of an exciting ride. Seriously, that was it. - dinner was more tourist fare which is a shame as the food in Lima is great - then 4 more hours back to Lima on the bus - (our tour guide on the bus was Danna and she was super awesome and organized) So from "pickup" at 5:30am to drop-off back in Lima at 11:30pm (18 hours!) we had 2.5 minutes of excitement which comes out to 0.23% of fun given the time investment. This tour is meant only to fill your instagram feed with selfies. So not worth it.
