This convent was the site of the first university in the Americas, San Marcos.
Nasca Lines, UNESCO Heritage
Nasca Lines - Travel by bus to Paracas bay, then transfer to Pisco airport for a flight over the mysterious Nasca lines. These massive drawings, visible only from the air, depict various insects and animals and are believed to be an astronomical calendar created by ancient desert inhabitants. Return to Ica, transfer to the hotel, and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.
Paracas National Reserve
Paracas - Embark on a morning marine excursion by motorboat to the Ballestas Islands. En route, view the “Candelabro,” a sand hill drawing facing the Pampa de Nasca. Observe Humboldt penguins, seals, and migratory birds on the islands. In the afternoon, travel by bus back to Lima, with arrival and hotel transfer.
Arequipa, the White City
Arequipa - Transfer to the airport for a flight to Arequipa. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, explore the “White City,” starting in the charming colonial neighborhood of San Lázaro, where Arequipa was founded. Stroll through its colorful streets adorned with geraniums, then head to the Carmen Alto viewpoint for stunning views of agricultural terraces and the three volcanoes: Misti, Chachani, and Picchu-Picchu. Continue to the colonial district of Yanahuara and its viewpoint. Visit the Santa Catalina Monastery, a remarkable religious monument closed for nearly 400 years, with narrow streets, squares, and gardens reminiscent of old Seville or Granada neighborhoods. Proceed to the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, and the Church of Jesus Company, established by the Jesuits in the 17th century.
The Volcanoes Route, Pampa Cañahuas, and Chivay
Colca Canyon - Embark on an adventure to the spectacular Colca Valley. Travel along the volcanoes route, ascending beside the Chachani volcano, with breathtaking views of the Misti and Picchu volcanoes. Pass through the vicuña reserve of Pampa Cañahuas, a high Andean habitat where vicuñas are protected. Reach the highest point at 4,900 m.a.s.l. at Patapampa pass, offering views of the active Sabancaya volcano. Descend to the Colca Valley, arrive and check in at the hotel. The Sacred Lake Titicaca and Its Islands
Taquile Island - In the morning, board a motorboat to visit the Uros, a community that sought refuge on Lake Titicaca to escape various conquering cultures. This community continues to build their islands using ancient techniques and welcomes visitors to share their knowledge. The locals earn a living from tourism. Continue sailing to Taquile Island, where the community has preserved its traditions, clothing, and way of life. As one of the few Quechua communities in an Aymara region, they have remained untouched by modernity. They will greet visitors with music and dances. Enjoy a nutritious lunch at a community restaurant. Afterwards, take a walk to appreciate the stunning views of Lake Titicaca. Return to Puno port and transfer to the hotel.
Route of the Altiplano
La Raya Pass - Travel by tour bus to Cusco, with the first stop at the Lithic Museum of Pucara, which houses artifacts from the local culture, including monoliths, stelas, and animal-shaped sculptures. Pucara is also known for its “toritos de Pucará,” colorful handicrafts symbolizing protection, happiness, and fertility. The next stop is at La Raya, the highest point at 4,335 m.a.s.l., marking the watershed between Lake Titicaca and the Vilcanota River, which flows into the Amazon basin. Enjoy lunch before continuing to Racchi, home to the temple of the god Wiracocha, with impressive stone columns and walls.
