Highlights
  • Plaza San Martin - We will begin our walk in Plaza San Martín, the second most important in Lima, full of stories and great monuments that I will tell you about. In this place we will visit the interiors of the Bolívar hotel.
  • Jiron de La Union - We will continue through the Jirón de la Unión, where we will feel that vibrant atmosphere so unique to a city like the capital of Peru. Along the way we will see buildings such as the Piedra house, the Barragán house, the Merced church, the O’higgins house, and others.
  • Plaza de Armas (Plaza Mayor) - Visit the historic center of Lima and discover with an expert the history and art that the streets of this ancient city tell. You will visit the main square where the Government Palace, the Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace and the Municipality of Lima are located.
  • Casa de la Literatura Peruana - Home to the old train station, it owes its name to a Jesuit chapel called “Virgen de los Desamparados” built in 1630 and which was in this space. This new building that we see is from 1913 and was at one time a train station. Since 2009, the House of Peruvian Literature has been operating here, a cultural center that belongs to the Ministry of Education. Every year this place is visited by more than 360 thousand people, many of them make use of its library called Mario Vargas Llosa, one of the most striking cultural spaces in the city.
  • Museo Convento San Francisco y Catacumbas - The Church and Convent of San Francisco was built in the 16th century, shortly after the founding of Lima by Francisco Pizarro in 1535. The church itself is a testament to colonial architectural splendor. Its façade presents an impressive combination of carved stone details and a large baroque style doorway. The convent has a cloister that is a haven of tranquility and a beautiful example of colonial architecture. However, the highlight is found underground: the catacombs that served as a cemetery during colonial times. Thousands of people were buried here, and walking through the narrow, gloomy hallways is a truly unique experience.
