Additional Information

Embark on a journey of history as you traverse the ancient city of Salamis, the charming old town of Famagusta and the uncanny ‘ghost town’ of Varosha.

Your encounter with the past begins with classical era at Salamis as you wander among its dilapidated temples, semi-restored theatre and much more.

After making time for lunch, you will pay a visit to Famagusta, a town still guarded by its well-preserved defensive walls erected by the Venetians multiple centuries before. Your tour guide will point out to fascinating sights including the fort and the Gothic cathedral converted into a mosque. Elpida mentions, ‘The fig tree, standing before the main entrance, was planted by the Crusaders who constructed the cathedral - hence, it is the oldest living entity in Famagusta.’ Concluding the journey, you’ll embark on a walking tour through the ‘ghost town’ of Varosha. Previously a renowned beach destination, it has been deserted since the Turkish invasion and was accessible to tourists only since 2020. It is an eerie experience to tread over the overgrown streets, lined with deteriorating buildings with oxidized shutters and shattered windows.

Wonderful experience - Thank you for this experience! The bus was on time. The guide and the driver made an effort to find me at the hotel, ensured not to leave without picking me up. The trip itself was easy, pleasant, lovely orange juice, beautiful scenery. The guide's commentary was full of interesting, heart-touching and useful information on the sites that we visited and the history of Cyprus overall. The trip was well-planned to be carried out at a relaxed pace, with two hours also provided as free time to wander around the old city and enjoy some lunch and a Turkish coffee. The guide gave plenty of tips on how to best spend this time. I would definitely recommend this tour. One remark - wear comfortable shoes, put on plenty of sunscreen/ perhaps long-sleeved top, take water, and avoid going when its too hot because all sites are open under direct sunlight.

An amazing experience! - Me and my husband took a day guided trip to the Salamis Ancient Kingdom and Famagusta during our stay in Limassol. We were taken through the very interesting and dramatic history of Famagusta and North Cyprus by our incredible guide Andri. What a well presented and full of facts story!!!! Andri’s personality and deep knowledge of the topic were impressive. The trip lasted about 7-8 hours, covering the key points as it was advertised (including the fresh juice of pomegranate 😊), free time was given for breaks and individual exploration, the whole trip was well-organised with a good time keeping and comfortable transport. We highly recommend it to anyone with an adventurous spirit, love of history and new experience.

An Amazing Day - Salamis and Famagusta is the perfect tour for both ancient and modern history. Our guide, Lisa was incredibly knowledgeable about both the ancient Greeks and Romans and the conflict between Turkey and Cyprus. We learned more than we could ever say. We were also treated to a couple of Cypriot folk songs, performed by our guide who has a beautiful singing voice. The best day!

great day out - Booked this tour via Viatour, and it was also the same tour as TUI, from my hotel. But cheaper :D Christopher was a very good tour guide, informative and answered any questions. Famagusta was a very poignant moment of the tour.

Wonderful - Lovely day out, regular stops along the way for breaks. Famagusta old town is lovely but don’t buy any of the replica clothes/bags because customs get on the coach when you cross back over the border and there is a hefty fine if you do buy these Turkish goods!

Stormy start - The tour started late due to the rain and stormy weather. I was not informed that the bus would be coming later and had to call the offices to confirm if the tour was still on. But the tour itself was great. The weather eventually cleared up and we had a great time. The guide was very informative and answered all questions. We had good time to enjoy the places. But we were not given tickets to the entrance of one of the sites. We did not have currency to buy a ticket and when we asked the guide about a currency exchange place , then he told us that he had tickets and it was included. This lack of info and poor communication lost us some time to explore the site. But the overall tour was great. Friendly and helpful guide. Good information about the history. Enjoyed it alot.

sad and dissappointing - Unfortunately we hadn't had the chance to go on that trip. We had a delay of 15 min due to public transport connections but texted them in advance and tried to call them. At the hotel nobody was there - the receptionist had no idea of that tour and we couldn't reach anyone. In hope they might be late or we get a message, we waited there 40 minutes. After we realized they would probably not come back and with having no signal from them, we cancelled the trip. We are so sad because two days before that trip we've booked another trip with the same organisation. They had then around 20 min delay and the hotel said they always were late. This experience was just bizarre. And the most dissappointing part is we didnt get our money back, just an email that we were late and also due to the early cancellation, they cant help us. So sad, it was our last day and we lost time because of that waiting and not knowing what is going on. At least we would have wished to be contacted..
