• Elevador da Gloria - The Elevador da Glória is one of the three funiculars in Lisbon.

Sung about in the music of one of the most avant-garde Lisbon bands of the 80s, the Elevador da Glória links Baixa to Bairro Alto – more specifically Praça dos Restauradores to Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara.

It lets you turn a steep climb into a romantic moment and was opened in 1885 as the second of its kind in the city. Although it was only electrified in 1915, it still retains its original characteristics.

A stroll down Avenida da Liberdade is always a delight, thanks to its stunning Portuguese pavement and the soulful buildings that line it, boasting exceptional architectural designs. The avenue is adorned with gardens filled with trees, plants, and kiosks, providing a perfect spot for a break. Its romantically-inspired water fountains take us on a journey back to the 19th century.

Venturing further up, at the crest of one of the hills, we get to explore the Príncipe Real neighborhood. This renowned district of the city provides a splendid bridge between Avenida da Liberdade’s contemporary and historical aesthetics. Here, cosmopolitan modernity intertwines with historical culture, sophistication and charm.
