Highlights
  • Evora District - A few facts about the town of ‘c9vora: it has 55,000 inhabitants; it is more than 2,000 years old; and it is under the designation of UNESCO. Within the walls of the wonderfully preserved town center are ancient Roman temples, medieval cathedrals, and narrow cobblestoned streets.

  • Evora - Begin your day trip with a pickup from your central Lisbon hotel, and then hop inside a comfortable minivan with your private guide. During the hour-long drive, gaze out at the Portuguese countryside and learn about the history and culture of the places you’re about to visit.

  • Templo Romano de Evora (Templo de Diana) - Start by visiting the Temple of Diana, the famed Roman temple that was dedicated to Augustus, emperor of Rome, and learn the changes it suffered through time.

  • Cathedral of Evora (Se Catedral de Evora) - Visit the grand Gothic Cathedral, built in the 12th century, and the medieval cloisters. Climb to the roof of the building to get a great view of the town and the surrounding countryside.

  • Capela dos Ossos - Check out the Chapel of Bones (Capela dos Ossos) inside the Church of St Francis. As the name suggests, the mysterious chapel is made up of human bones.

  • Praca do Giraldo - Enjoy some free time to explore the streets and city center of ‘c9vora, and have lunch in the excellent restaurants available.

  • Centro Interpretativo dos Almendres - Make your final stop of the tour at the Almendres Cromlech, a Neolithic stone circle, which is aligned with the Summer Solstice. Wander around the ancient circle, said to be the largest existing group of structured menhirs in the Iberian Peninsula, and hear how the stones were likely used for sacred rituals.

Nice day-trip to Évora - Our guide was very friendly and informative. He took us to the Almendres Kromlech, which is actually older than Stonehenge before taking us to the city of Évora. We were allowed two hours for lunch and to explore on our own, which I really appreciated. Then we visited the Chapel of Bones before heading back to Lisbon.

One of the best tours I have ever been on! Evora was magical. - I had the most amazing time on this tour, our guide Filipe was so knowledgeable and genuine! He did such a wonderful job answering all of our questions. It was a small group, only myself and another couple but that’s what made it very intimate. I will remember this forever. I soaked in such beautiful historical sites and learned so much about Portugal. My favorite was The Chapel of Bones. It was so interesting.

Thanks Diogo! Lovely day trip, worthwhile to see Church of bones and Almendres - Our tour guide Diogo was lovely and made the whole trip extremely pleasant with the right amount of info (on history, facts, local details etc) and free time to take photos, walk around ourselves, shop a bit etc. The itinerary is also well planned, attractions are spaced out and there is adequate time at each location. Highly recommend this as a day trip from Lisbon.

Great day out of Lisbon!! - It was just a great way to see Evora and the Almendres Cromlech. Our guide Nunu just made sure that we saw what we wanted, that we enjoyed ourselves and that we were fully satisfied and we also had a great lunch in Evora. Thanks Nunu for a great day.

Great way to explore Alentejo! - This was a great way to explore the Alentejo region. NuNu (sorry for likely misspelling) was a great guide and provided helpful insights into the history of the region.

Church of Bones - Paulo was absolutely incredible tour guide. Very relaxed and comfortable and very knowledgeable. The trip was amazing. From start to finish with a bonus stop to see a unbelievable learning experience about how a factory that uses cork to make anything from hats to shoes to chairs ,tables, purses, bags, wallets all kind of things you'd never expect. Would do this trip again in a heartbeat.

Was one of the weak spots of our trip to Portugal. - It was a nasty, rainy day but the guide could not adjust. I sat in the back seat during the trip but could not hear what he was saying. I asked him to speak up but he said he couldn't. The very good part was the lunch we had on our own. Great food, great service.
