Afonso Henriques, and today it presents itself as a mixture of architectural styles. It has been classified as a National Monument since 1910.

Miradouro das Portas do Sol - Take advantage of the stop to take photos with a wonderful view. Visiting the viewpoint is also an excuse to appreciate the genuine features of Lisbon in a fantastic view of the eastern front of the Alfama neighborhood and the Tagus River, which extends to the river’s edge in a unique labyrinth of streets, staircases and alleys. Castelo de S. Jorge - The first walls of the castle, which was rebuilt several times by different people and received different names, date back to the 2nd century. The current name derives from the castle’s devotion to Saint George, patron saint of knights and crusades, made by order of D. João I in the 14th century.

Chiado - Lisbon’s commerce and theater center, Chiado is home to Rua Garrett, a shopping area with sophisticated shops, restaurants and the 18th century Bertrand Bookstore. Locals gather near statues of the greats of Portuguese literature in the lively Praça LuÃs de Camões. Nearby, the Church of the Incarnation and the Church of Loreto feature ornate marble interiors, while the 18th-century Teatro Nacional de São Carlos boasts Rococo-style decorations.

Mosteiro dos Jeronimos - The Monastery of Santa Maria de Belém, better known as Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, is a Portuguese monastery, built at the end of the 15th century by King Manuel I and was handed over to the Order of Saint Jerónimo. It is located in the parish of Belém.

Alfama - The steep streets of Alfama, one of Lisbon’s oldest areas, are lined with traditional craft shops and cafes. The historic tram no. 28, packed with passengers, winds through Alfama and climbs to the 11th-century São Jorge Castle. The views from Miradouro da Graça extend over the city and the Tagus River. At night, it is possible to hear the melancholic fado in some of the restaurants in the area, which have long been in operation.
