Oceanário de Lisboa - Visiting the Oceanário de Lisboa offers a remarkable experience, allowing guests to explore and feel the enchanting magic of the underwater realm. Embark on this reflective journey to encounter 8,000 marine creatures from 500 diverse species.
The permanent exhibition (Aquarium) honors life on Earth with a central 5-million-liter saltwater aquarium, encircled by four marine habitats that represent the North Atlantic, Antarctic, Temperate Pacific, and Tropical Indian Ocean. This design creates the illusion of viewing a single aquarium and ocean. The tour spans two levels, both terrestrial and underwater, traversing the temperate, tropical, and cold waters of the planet’s various oceans.
Additionally, explore the “Forests Underwater,” a masterpiece by Takashi Amano, showcasing tropical forests through the world’s largest nature aquarium, and the new “Submerged Universe” exhibition, an immersive journey into the vastness of the ocean.

Consider reserving tickets online to skip the line - We had a hard time getting to the aquarium because our first taxi driver took us to the Vasco de Gama small aquarium initially. After a second taxi ride we were dropped off at the mall instead of at the aquarium. Again, we had to regroup and it was a fairly long walk to the Ocearario entrance. To avoid our chaos be sure to ask your transportation to take you as close as possible to the entrance. You can buy your tickets online and skip the line because there are timed entries. Once we finally made it inside the experience was outstanding. The attention to detail for the design of the space was outstanding. You will flow through each area using a specific route that is designed for everyone.

One of the highlights of Lisbon - Always nice to visit the oceanarium. It has a contagious balance and atmosphere. The submerged forests are a starting point of great importance to introduce the theme of ecology and balance, raising the visitor to a level of meditation before starting the sight.

Beautiful! - Beautiful aquarium! The view is spectacular over all these underwater animals. Very well arranged. I had the chance to visit it outside the tourist period, few people. Species I see for the first time. A big crush.

Highly Recommend - Highly recommend! We enjoy going to different aquariums and this one did not disappoint. It was really neat to see the different tanks from different levels and sides. We were able to see different species that we’ve never seen at an aquarium before.

An alternative for a rainy day in Lisbon - Good for a rainy day. It is recommended to book tickets online in advance to avoid long queues. The information is limited. The numerous seating options are positive. Overall worth seeing, but expandable.

Nice when not busy - On a Tuesday before Christmas, this visit was more enjoyable than I thought it would be. Probably because it’s low tourist season so we were able to see all the exhibits comfortably. The place is smaller compared to most US aquariums I’ve been to but lottta of variety of fish to see. Sometimes when you visit an aquarium you need to search in the display for whatever is on display but that’s not the case here. Plenty of pretty fish to see and penguins and otters too. There are toilets hidden behind black doors in the aquarium itself which is a separate building from the entrance. I mention this because when I asked if there were other toilets besides the one by the entrance I was told no. Just look for the pictorial stick figures painted on black doors within the aquarium itself and there are toilets there. Maybe the lady didn’t understand me when I asked.
The aquarium is two floors and there is a special exhibit which was very small. Took us two hours to see it at a slow pace (had an elderly parent with us). Saw a lot of cool and pretty fish as I mentioned (sunfish was cool, never saw one before). Gift shop is large. The aquarium is nearby a shopping mall and a McDonald’s so you can also walk around the area or do the cable car.
