Corticarte - Arte em Cortica - Depart from Lisbon to the Alentejo region, specifically Évora, crossing the stunning suspension bridge and admiring the city and the Christ the King monument. Our day begins on a farm, learning that cork is the bark of the cork oak, a type of oak tree. This bark has remarkable properties: it’s lightweight, elastic, and fire-resistant, among other things.
The bark grows each year, but it can only be harvested every nine years, reaching up to 25 centimeters in thickness. This provides excellent protection for the tree against heat, cold, and fire. After harvesting, the tree forms a new layer of bark.
Centro Historico de Evora - Évora is a place where various civilizations have lived. The old “Temple of Diana” is next to the Cathedral of Évora, built during the Roman period. We can also see the magnificent “Water of the Silver” aqueduct, which extends from outside the city walls to the city’s periphery. Some of its arches are still visible within the city. It was built in the 16th century to ensure water transportation.
The Arabs constructed their streets and alleys in the 11th and 12th centuries. Évora was the residence of some Portuguese kings and a convergence point for renowned artists, supported by the patronage of the reigning dynasty in Portugal. The period of discoveries brought glory to Évora, creating favorable conditions for the construction of numerous aristocratic mansions and the Jesuit university.
Capela dos Ossos - The highlight is the Church of St. Francis, especially the Chapel of Bones, adorned with the skulls and bones of 500 monks. It attracts thousands of visitors each year and bears the inscription “We bones, here we are, for you, let’s wait” at its entrance.

2nd day: Albufeira - Lagos - Sagres - Albufeira
Marina de Lagos - On the second day of our private tour in the Algarve from Lisbon, we leave the hotel and visit Lagos. In the mid-16th century, Lagos was a major base supporting the Discoveries, the starting point for many expeditions, and a hub for traded goods.
This strategic importance led to significant economic development, attracting many people to the city and spurring its urban growth.
Continuous attacks from North African corsairs necessitated the construction of a second set of walls, adapted to new military architecture concepts introduced by the widespread use of artillery. The Portuguese, following the Italian vanguard model, implemented these in Morocco and other territories within the Empire.
Fortaleza de Sagres - To: Sagres, Sagres, District of Faro, Algarve
The Sagres Fortress, also known as Promotorium Sacrum, was built by order of Infante D. Henrique, the Navigator. Inside, we will see cannons, a 16th-century tower, and the Church of Our Lady of Grace. One of the notable monuments is the rose of the winds, a sundial some believe dates back to the time of the Navigator and the nautical school he founded in Sagres.
Cape Saint Vincent - To: Cabo de San Vicente, Sagres, District of Faro, Algarve
Nearby is the Cape Fort of San Vicente, built in the 16th century to protect the coast from Moorish attacks and pirates. According to legend, the site where the fortress stands once held the remains of San Vicente before they were transferred to Lisbon.

The museum covers the history of local fishermen, their travels, and the tools they used, as well as maritime devotions. There are several rooms to explore, and the highlight is a 3D movie that takes you on a journey from prehistory to medieval times, ending with a return to the ocean and the future of Sesimbra.
Baia de Setubal - You are in: Setúbal Bay, Setúbal, Setúbal District, Alentejo
Setúbal and the sea are inseparable, with fishermen, boats, and the river and sea forming an integral part of the city’s identity. This is vividly demonstrated by the hundreds of boats anchored along the riverside, contrasting with the sun-bronzed skin of the hardworking fishermen. These real sea people are known for their wisdom and humor, capable of painting vivid pictures with their words.
Setubal - The Fort of São Filipe, also known as Castelo de São Filipe and Fortaleza de São Filipe, is a fortification in Setúbal, classified as a national monument since 1933. It is located in the Arrábida Natural Park.
