Travel to Slovenia: historic Scenery, friendly people & speak English, safe, inexpensive, easy to travel - We are still talking about this amazing tour of Ljubljana Castle we had with Peter from Viator tour guide services. We started of with Ljubljana Castle. So much to see at the castle: climbed the stairs for scenic views of the town, river, countryside, history of the area and more. Toured the dundgeon and read colorful history. Peter gave us tons of historical facts of Ljubljana! Peter also pointed out Dragon Bridge and how Ljubljana spent much money to replace cobblestones so perfect that you can walk with eyes closed and not trip. This was truly impressive as many visits to Europe we have to look down to not trip over uneven cobblestones. Peter is among the nicest people we have met during our trip to Slovenia and three other countries! We also are very thankful for Peter waiting for us as our trip was delayed due to heavy rain and traffic. Very Dependable as Peter's knowledge and insights of the town, area, and history were impressive and helped us appreciate what we saw. He also helped guide us to some special items we were looking for during our tour that Slovenia is known for. Next time in Slovenia, we will go here and ask for Peter as guide.

Be sure to watch the 4D film - Very compact fortification, but with a spectacular view of the city and distant mountains. Highlights include going up to the top of the viewing tower but first watching the 4D film screening just inside the tower. The film features Friderik the rat, self-proclaimed castle historian - but what a fun way to learn about the history of the hilltop fort and who built/demolished/rebuilt it over the many centuries humans have held this ground. Many interesting nooks and crannies, but several of the buildings are either restaurants or otherwise not open to the public. Some of the underground spaces are very cool, including an art gallery tucked in under the main plaza.

Interesting in many ways - Such an interesting and varied tour. This is not a palace tour like one might have in Florence or Vienna but rather a tour of a castle that had multiple lives over the years. It was interesting to hear about its transition over the years, including through the Habsburg years and then after WWI. After falling into quite some disrepair, it has been significantly restored while retaining its historical charm and feeling even while hosting a quite modern interior structure that seems to be holding up the building while providing access to its various corners.
Do get the audio tour as this is a complicated building to follow, with rooms not being one after the other but rather scattered around the central courtyard in unconnected areas.
There was a puppet exhibition going on while we were there, which was interesting but has nothing to do with the castle itself. Interesting sociology perhaps, but something of a deviation from the rest of the time in the castle.

Beautiful castle - A beautiful castle on a small hill above the city itself, from where there is a wonderful view of Ljubljana and the surrounding mountains. It is worth a visit to feel the breath of a bygone era and how people lived in the past.

Nice hike and museum. - I went to three castles in Slovenia and really enjoyed the Ljubljana Castle. The museum was great, especially the puppet section. The hike up isn't too strenuous and when I went (right at opening) it wasn't too busy.

Good View - Visits as part of a tour, great view and nice to see the chapel, not much else to see.
Was very busy and full but very much recommend.

Lossable - With the funicular you arrive quickly but together with the ticket for the castle you spend about 16.5 euros. The audio guide (not recommended) magnifies what little there is to see. The return better do it on foot even if the road is a bit steep

I’ll never use this website again - Bad experience I paid extra for tickets on line thru this company so I wouldn’t have to stand in a long line to get tickets. Unfortunately, I had to stand in a long line with people who had not purchased tickets just to “redeem” my voucher. They didn’t email me a ticket, they emailed me a “voucher” that had to be “redeemed”. It’s a rip off. I’ll never use this website again.
