Friendly tour in a friendly city - Really enjoyed my tour of Lome and Lake Togo! My guide Louis and his driver were very friendly, I really appreciated their fun company and decent English skills. The voodoo market was a highlight for me, as well as the boat across Lake Togo and stopping off for some beers to quench our thirst on the way. Thanks for the great tour guys!

Great day trip - It was a great tour. My guide Mr. Louis was very friendly and knowledgeable. He is very kind as he puts a lot of effort to support kids that need a home. The boat ride was nice. I had a good time.

Lomé on a Sunday - The guide, Martine, was great! The tour would be five stars if I had gone on any day except Sunday—apparently the art museum is closed that day and the market isn’t very busy. But otherwise a very interesting time!

Poor trip - Louis the operator did not speak English. His wife was the guide, complete with her 2 year old. He hires the car and driver, who again spoke no English and did not know where he was going. Very little information.

Know what this tour is (a drive with stops and no guiding) and what it is not (a guided tour) - Our guide, Louis, was great at communication before the tour. He reached out via WhatsApp and was responsive and great to deal with. After meeting him, I believe that he ran everything through Google Translate because even though the tour says it has an English-speaking guide, he spoke little English. His wife and two-year-old daughter came along. His wife spoke more English, but only at a rudimentary level.
When they arrived, it was in a rented 8-person van. It could only seat 8 comfortably if everyone was short. The five of us were all 5'9" or taller so the rear seats were not practical for us. With the five of us, Louis, his wife, and the driver of the van, we would have been crammed in. The van itself was in poor repair with four warning lights on the dash including the airbag, brake system,, alternator, and the general wrench error. There were no seatbelts on the middle narrow jumpseat in the second row. A warning horn sounded for a significant part of the trip and that was extremely annoying, especially to those in the back seat. Louis rented a tuk-tuk and came along separately, leaving his wife and daughter in the van with us. The air conditioning in the van stopped working every time the driver slowed below 30mph. The vehicle was completely unacceptable as a tour vehicle.
We wish Viator was more forthcoming about what was included. We all missed the fact that absolutely none of the admission fees were included in the fee for this tour. It was there in the small print on the itinerary, but if nothing is concluded, that should be front and center.
We got no commentary about anything while in the car. We got very brief descriptions, for example when we visited Lake Togo, but that was it.
At the slave house, the tour was only offered in French. We were lucky as another tour was there and that guide translated for all of us. If he wasn't there, we doubt Loius or his wife could have provided that translation.
Please understand that this isn't a tour. It is a vehicle, a driver, and a family that takes you places. None of the admission fees are included. Nothing is included. The Viator fee only covers the trip. You could very likely do better if you could find a driver for the day and tell him where to go.
Louis and his wife were very nice and their daughter was well-behaved, but in terms of providing a tour and enriching our experience, they offered little. They did care and wanted to provide a good experience but with the issue with the vehicle and general lack of content, it just did not work for our group.
If you just want to be transported to the places, and you understand that's what you're getting, then this tour is a good fit. If you're looking for an actual tour with a guide who adds value to the experience with information about Togo and the sights you visit, look elsewhere.

Absolutely Terrible experience: car broke down, tour guide didn’t speak much English - Absolutely terrible experience. DO NOT book this tour. Our guide - Louis arrived in a car without ac which had issues. The car broke down multiple times on the highway. At one point he left us on the roadside for 1 hour alone to call for assistance after taking a motorbike with some stranger to change the oil in his car as it overheated.
The only silver lining is that the sites we saw in Togo were great including the Slave House, Fetish Market and Museum of Art. However, the guide did not speak much English and I had to use the translator app for most the tour. The car gave trouble most of the tour and getting to the sites was hard. He handed us off to other guides at the sites who were more knowledgeable. I did Enjoy my time at the fetish market but definitely negotiate there.
the guide didn’t stop for lunch and was ready to go home until we told him and then he took us to a restaurant where the waitress complained about needing cash instead of credit card even after our guide said we could use our card there. Finally, the waitress was able to use our card and it worked so I think they purposely wanted us to use cash for some reason even though the credit card machine worked.
Overall, extremely terrible experience and I’m just glad we were able to make it back to the hotel safely. Togo is a beautiful country with so much to offer but with guides like these, you’re disinterested in exploring the beautiful sites. Will never EVER use such a tour again.
