A hidden gem in London - Even though I've lived in, and around London, for many years, I discovered the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich only this year. Please go - you'll be amazed by The Painted Hall and the Chapel, but also spend some time in the Visitor Centre, just a short stroll from the Greenwich Pier. Beautiful place to visit, and a charity which relies on patrons and the funds from entrance tickets. Guaranteed, it'll blow your mind!

I took a chance and it paid off! (Hats off to Lydia) - I took a chance and it paid off! (Hats off to Lydia) The Old Royal Naval College is one of the most beautiful examples of British legacy and, being the son of two navy veterans, have wanted to see it myself for a long time. The Painted Hall especially, being perfectly expounded upon by an extremely articulate and well-read tour guide (Lydia), took my breath away. She seemed to understand every flourish, brush stroke, and square inch of the ceiling- all the way down to the TV antennae (inside joke). After interpreting the Spanish Galleon, zodiac characters, scientists, monarchs, angels, the goodies, the baddies and deciphering the Latin- it really stood out to me how important it is to have an expert guide you through England's most treasured exhibit. (Thank you Lydia)

Greenwich an Oasis of Calm - The whole area around this part of Greenwich is an oasis of calm away from the crowds and busy streets of central London, definitely visit via the water taxi, you get to see some lovely buildings on the waters edge and a different view of Canary Wharf. Apart from the builds and large information Centre there's not a lot to see, the great hall is quite spectacular, however the grounds and eating areas make the visit worthwhile. Also take a short walk into Greenwich, there is a small but interesting market with plenty of more eating options (possibly weekends only, but check) Cutty Sark is also docked here and for an additional charge you can walk under and through the ship. Overall a lovely morning trip with the added treat of sailing under tower bridge if taking the uber from further up the Thames

Fascinating tour of the painted hall. Don’t miss it!!! - The tour of the painted hall by Jim a volunteer was FANTASTIC!!! He provided an excellent overview of the facilities and had a very deep knowledge of the paintings and provided some very interesting insights and facts about the paintings and architecture. Well worth going to. Forget about 5 start. Jim gets 10 stars and definitely recommend the tour ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Climb two unique staircases in Queen Mary Court - The Royal Naval College buildings are all Open today! Get to the main open space facing the river and find a desk where you can register today for the Open House guided tours of the Old Naval College buildings. Tours take about 30 mins. We visited the Queen Mary Court by a less well known architect, and learnt they subdivided the building into small rooms the pensioned off sailors would feel comfortable in. So an interesting history of a designer learning on the job what the client needs! The two staircases are really worth going to see; both cantilevered and one is oval. They are as unique as the tulip staircase int he Queen's House, also worth a visit.

Painted Hall on 13 Aug 24 - afternoon tea and then guided tour of the hall - Did 2 things - afternoon tea in the Undercroft Cafe and then a guided tour of the Painted Hall. Afternoon Tea in the Undercroft Cafe at 1:30pm - very well presented and staff looked after us. The only main downside was the heat on a hot afternoon. As they cant open the windows, it was really hot having the afternoon tea and sometimes perspiring! The guided tour of the Painted Hall at 3pm was well done and all my questions were answered.

Absolutely Terrible - It was terrible. A midern art monstrosity was erected and obscured the view. It was a complete waste of time as you go see the magnificent ceiling and arch and most of it was hidden away.
