Highlights
  • National Gallery - For centuries, the History of Art has been studied through the work, achievements, and perspectives of men.

This walking tour aims to change that narrative. We want to show that women were not just objects of art on a canvas - they were its creators and innovators. This 2.5-hour walking tour will take you through the collection at the National Gallery.

The tour highlights a wide range of themes surrounding Women in Art, their representation in paintings, and the influence their own work had on those who came after.

Discover the art of 17th Century Artemisia Gentileschi, who was influenced by the naturalistic style of Caravaggio. Find out why she chose to paint biblical narratives about women, and why she portrayed herself as the main character.

Learn about the work of impressionist artist Berthe Morisot, who exhibited her art alongside Monet, Degas, and Renoir, despite restrictions on her gender.

Uncover the creative talent and contributions these women and many others made to the History of Art.

Captivating and learnt a lot - This was an incredible start to my weekend! I went on the tour with my sister today and we loved Steph's infectious enthusiasm and knowledge for her subject. Steph told the stories of the female painters we explored in such a captivating way, it was hard not to want to become both the best friend of these historic female painter's and Steph's! I learnt a huge amount and the tour has left me hungry to learn more about women in art. Steph made some great reading recommendations which I am keen to follow up on. An amazing way to celebrate the week of International Women's Day.

Amazing experience - I loved the way Becky was able to explain everything throughout the museum making it easier to understand what we were seeing since we didn’t have audio guides. She’s super sweet and fun made everyone feel comfortable in a new country.

Fascinating tour from a great guide - I have been meaning to write this review for ages but did not forget as the Women in Art tour was such good value and so interesting. We were still quite restricted when Charlotte took me around the National Gallery, and it turned out I was the only one who had booked. Never once did she fail to shine in her sharing of her knowledge and love for the subject. Charlotte really is the best guide, very informative, enthusiastic, and extremely knowledgeable. I got far more out of it than I had expected, and whether you are interested in women’s history or not, this tour will help you appreciate the artwork so much more. I highly recommend it.

Excellent and knowledgeable guide. - Excellent, passionate and knowledgeable guide! However, we didn’t receive an email with joining instructions. We waited inside the main entrance by the ticket office but the guide was waiting outside. The front of house staff didn’t know anything about the tour and couldn’t help. We had to contact your live chat to track the group down, by which time my husband had lost patience and gone off to get a coffee. Shame because he missed an excellent tour. .

Knowledgeable and entertaining - I highly recommend this tour, Steph, our guide, was very knowledgeable and entertaining, she covered the works and also the life/social condition of women artists we looked at. She also covered some of the important artists that are not collected by the NG but that need mentioning in the period we covered, we also discussed the future of women artists (things are getting better!). It was extremely interesting and I will definitely try another of their tours - women of Bloomsbury looks good!
