Learn about the film industry in most interesting and entertaining way. Take your time. You won’t be disappointed. - Multiple interesting and curated permanent exhibits. Comfortably spaced in an airy and well lighted space. You can move at your own pace through both written information postings, illustrations and video pieces. Film history is traced as well as send-ups of favorites to maintain the interest of all patrons of the film arts. Temporary exhibits abound, with current in depth examination of Jewish people in the industry. No value judgement offered, just facts and compelling details of the industry woven into history bringing visitor to an interesting experience with understanding.

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is WONDERFUL! - The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is WONDERFUL! A veritable candy store for anyone who loves motion pictures, the museum is a feast for the eyes, the ears and the mind. The exhibits on various aspects of filmmaking — casting, music, costuming and makeup, special effects, etc. — are wide-ranging and fascinating. And there are exhibits on individual movies. I especially loved the great exhibits on The Godfather films and Casablanca. In addition to videos, including interviews, auditions and rehearsals as well as final cuts of key scenes, the Godfather exhibit included artifacts, like Don Vito’s office, characters’ costumes and even a replica of the famous horse’s head! And the artifacts in the Casablanca exhibit included both pianos played by Sam in the film and the doors of Rick’s Cafe. And of course there are various Oscar statuettes on display, among them Clark Gable’s and even Mary Pickford’s from the infancy of the Academy. There is so much in the museum that one could spend days there without seeing everything. Two galleries were closed on the day we visited, but our visit still filled most of the day. This is a must for any lover of films. And if you’re in L.A., chances are that you are a film lover. So GO!

A great museum for the whole family! - This is a place where times stands still, and yet flies by! Filled with memories of all times, for all ages, you will feel you just enteres at the museum when your whole morning disappears. The exhibitions are perfectly installed, with a lot of interaction for the visitors, and lot of information to learn from. And as some of the exhibitions are temporary, you can visit it again and again.

Improved over the first 3 years - I reviewed this museum 3 years ago soon after they opened. At that time I gave it a 3 dot rating. We returned again to see the Godfather exhibit and whether they had improved some of the things I had disliked. The museum experience was indeed better this visit. PROS: Because it’s not brand new any longer, it was far less crowded, which was a relief. The Godfather exhibit was excellent and worth the trip. The Casablanca exhibit also was very interesting. Much of floor 2 was very good as before: the focus on various aspects of film - sound, editing, casting, etc. Seeing audition tapes and the selection process for actors is always fascinating. The exhibits on hair and makeup on floor 3 were engaging. The Toy Story zoetrope on the 4th floor remains addictive. And they have greatly improved the map! It is now clear and concise - a useful document. CONS: The animation section on the 3rd floor was disappointing. It did not educate at all about the animation process or evolution. Maybe a thorough homage to animation could replace the color in motion when it’s over.

Probably don't go just to go - Nicely done overall - I went for the John Waters exhibit and was pleased that I actually enjoyed going through the rest of the museum. My favorite part was the prop items from different movies - the space pieces from 2001: A Space Odyssey, Close Encounters, Gremlins, the piano from Casablanca and the Creature from the Shape of Water. Those are personal preferences however (I enjoy props and costumes). The John Waters exhibit was well done, and I liked the tie into the adjacent exhibit on New Queer Cinema. The museum isn't perfect with use of space, and it is kind of expensive, but everything in LA is very expensive. If there isn't something there that you would really like to see you can probably skip it, but if you are a big movie buff or there is a special exhibit there you are interested in, then it will be worth it.

See statuettes of the Royal Academy Awards - The visit is very interesting. The room where the statuettes of the Royal Academy Awards are displayed is a must. The only bad thing is they were changing an exhibition and we couldn't get into everything.

Nice, but underwhelming - Not as significant of a collection as we anticipated and not worth a $25 ticket. There are some cool props and costumes to see up close, but it felt pretty light compared to say, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland (if you’ve ever been there). Not much on movie making or history - there were a couple of really neat things (like visual effects and make up), but the audio/soundscape room experience was very underwhelming. The movie-specific exhibits were well-curated and interesting, but small. Seems like most of the funds were put into the screening rooms and making the building look glitzy.

A disappointment - What a disappointment. I was expecting so much more. With the resources the Academy must have access to they will have some great exhibits boy were we disappointed. If you happen to be in the area drop-in but I would not make a special trip.

Don’t trust Viator - You sold me a ticket to a closed museum and ripped me off. I showed up at the museum with my ticket and the museum was closed- it’s always closed on Tuesdays but you still sold me a ticket.
