Join an engaging, hour-long walking tour to the renowned “Batcaves” in Griffith Park. The journey begins at the Brush Canyon parking lot, leading to a brief, picturesque walk to the Batcaves, a former quarry tunnel famous for its role as the exterior location in the 1960s Batman TV series. Although the tunnel is not open to the public, the surrounding area is rich with stories of California’s diverse geology and ecology.
During the tour, participants will explore local flora, engaging in a hands-on experience to discover their scents, uses, and the plant communities they flourish in. As the group nears the Batcaves, they will observe how the park’s flora and fauna have influenced California’s history. For instance, discover how laurel sumac is connected to Orange County’s citrus industry and learn about P-22, the “Brad Pitt of Mountain Lions.” At the Batcaves, the tour will reflect on its cultural significance and geological beginnings. Participants are advised to bring sturdy shoes, a hat, sunscreen, and water. Stay alert for wildlife such as rattlesnakes, tarantulas, coyotes, bobcats, and more!
