Catalina Express: San Pedro to Avalon One-Way Ferry

Climb aboard the ‘Catalina Express’ ferry at the Catalina Sea and Air Terminal in San Pedro for ONE-WAY SERVICE to Catalina Island. You can expect awe-inspiring views of the Pacific Ocean on your trip.

Duration: 1 hour
Highlights

The Catalina Express ferry schedule changes often depending on seasonality.

When it’s time to travel, hop aboard the Catalina Express in San Pedro, and relax on your journey across the Pacific to Catalina Island. You’ll arrive in Avalon, the southernmost city in Los Angeles County, in about 1 hour.

When you get off the ferry, walk just five minutes into downtown Avalon to begin your independent exploration of the Island. This is not a guided tour – your time on Catalina is your own to do whatever you wish. Admire views of the waterfront along Avalon Bay, perhaps visit a restaurant or café, go shopping, or do something more active (all at your own expense). The number of vehicles on the island is limited, so enjoy the pedestrian-friendly streets of town.

San Pedro

Part of The Los Angeles Port, San Pedro is home to landmarks like the Los Angeles Maritime Museum, as well as the USS Iowa and SS Lane Victory ships. You’ll embark and disembark the ferry at the Catalina Sea and Air Terminal. Ferry schedule varies by season; the ferries can accommodate surfboards, strollers, and bikes.

Hidden gem for a Day trip - If you have an extra day and are looking for something to do outside of Los Angeles, a Catalina Island day trip is the perfect option. You can hop on board a boat and zip across to this breathtaking island. Once there, you can rent a golf cart and explore all the hidden treasures it has to offer. With 8000 years of history and culture, there is plenty to discover and learn about. Plus, the island has a variety of fun activities to offer, making it a great destination for a day trip.

Great Trip - It was my Husband’s first time ever to Catalina Island. The Catalina Express was comfortable and left on time. This was a great experience for both of us. We enjoyed our stay on the Island. Lots to see and do.

Oke but take different start location. - Ok but dated boat interior. Take the same company but leave front long beach, seems more modern boat from LB and have special premium lounge.

This trip had 1 extra stop! - The boat made an additional stop at twin harbor which caused the typical 1 hour trip to become 2.5 hours. We lost 1.5 hours which we could’ve spent on the island.

Loud crew members - A group of the crew on the returning ferry to Long Beach was extremely loud with their very personal conversation, which made the trip quite unpleasant. But the crew on the ferry going to the island was very cordial, polite, and quieter.
