Cooking in Cabos - Loved the market shopping to pick up our ingredients for our cooking lesson and seeing the tortillas being made. It was fun making our own margarita mix and then our own masterpiece margaritas. Made our food creations even better!

Incredibly entertaining and delicious hands-on cooking experience - My husband and I did this activity for our anniversary and I can't say enough about how fun this is! All the positive reviews I read here built up quite an expectation and we were not disappointed at all. Chef Issa and Chef Carolina were our delightful hosts for this experience, but we got to meet more of their family throughout the day, including their mother. When I saw pictures online of the matching aprons participants wear, I worried it was some kind of corporate chain thing, but in the end I felt really good about supporting a family who put together a winning combination of learning, cooking, eating, and fun for guests. We were there on a tamale day, but the other dishes also sounded great. It is a very long activity, but it never felt that way to us. Everything was well-paced. It never felt slow and we never got hungry. After our tour around town to get ingredients (including an unexpected stop at a fantastic bakery next to the produce store), the first order of business was everyone helping to hand squeeze 200 limes for our margaritas. The tip on how to cut the limes to get the most juice out fastest is something I'll use at home for sure! Issa taught us how to mix our own margaritas right away, showing us how to alter it to our own tastes. Then, the alcohol and ingredients were kept out the whole time so we could keep practicing over the next hours. So, open bar margaritas! The cooking tasks were simple enough that everyone could participate as much or as little as they wanted. Along the way to tamales, we also made pico de gallo and two different kinds of guacamole, so there was a lot of snacking along the way. In the end, we not only had a huge meal with two different kinds of tamales we made. There was also mashed potatoes, salsas, and the guac/pico de gallo. We were so full. It was the only meal we ate that day and it was plenty. There was a tequila tasting at the end that I wasn't expecting, but we didn't feel pressured to buy any. Churros were also served during that with chocolate sauce or condensed milk. A nice touch was that a live drummer/singer playing with pre-recorded music tracks provided mellow or festive music throughout the day as the mood of the group called for it. It wasn't too loud or obtrusive. Mainly calm bossa nova at first and then more energetic later as more alcohol was had by the group. They gave us a link to all the recipes we used that day and more. I can't wait to try them out at home. I'd like to mention something to rebut a negative review I saw on TripAdvisor. Someone claimed that they were pressured into giving a 5 star review. That was not my experience at all. In fact, I didn't leave one there because I had so much to say, I didn't want to sit around typing on my phone. I'm at home in the U.S. giving this review of my own free will and will gladly tell everyone that this is a great activity to do!!

Fun outing for everyone! - Carolina is a natural teacher. She explained everything we were doing in great detail. The markets we shopped at were a lot of fun. I wish we would have bought two packs of tortillas when we had the chance. The paella and tacos we made were really good. Of course the home made margaritas added to the flavor. There were other couples there who had done this same event multiple times because there is a new menu each time (and Carolina shares the recipes). We will be back.

Can’t miss experience - Fantastic experience: can’t recommend highly enough. From the moment we were greeted by Chef Issi, we were blown away. The shopping experience at small local food stores, his explanation of everything, hands-on instruction on making margaritas and cooking a full-course, delicious food, free-flowing conversation, right in his family home! Our best experience so far of getting away from the tourist mode and experiencing local culture. First time for my wife and I, but in the dozens of repeat trips for our hosts here in Cabo San Lucas, they say they have NEVER been disappointed with Cookin’ Cabo.
