A Journey to the Stars

As a mother of three, I am always on the lookout for activities that are both educational and entertaining for my family. Our recent adventure to Teide National Park for a sunset and stargazing experience was nothing short of magical. The journey began with a convenient pick-up from our hotel in Los Cristianos, and the drive up the mountain was filled with scenic views and informative commentary from our guide, Craig. His passion for the area and its history was infectious, and my kids were captivated by the stories he shared.

Our first stop was a charming Canarian restaurant where we enjoyed a delightful meal. The menu offered a variety of options, including a delicious pork steak, BBQ chicken, and Canarian potatoes, with vegetarian choices available as well. The meal was accompanied by a light chocolate mousse cake and a selection of drinks, including chilled red wine and beer. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow travelers and share our excitement for the evening ahead.

Sunset Above the Clouds

After our meal, we continued our ascent into the mountains, passing through recent lava flows and lush forests. The landscape was breathtaking, and as we reached the sunset viewing point, we were greeted with a view that seemed almost otherworldly. Standing above the sea of clouds, we watched as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of red and orange. It was a moment of pure tranquility, and I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to share it with my children.

The viewing point was stunning, but it was also quite exposed, making it chilly and windy. Thankfully, the team had jackets available for those who needed them, and I was glad I had packed some extra layers for the kids. The terrain was a bit loose, so I would recommend wearing proper walking shoes to ensure a comfortable experience.

A Night Under the Stars

As darkness fell, we made our way to the stargazing site, where we were introduced to the wonders of the universe by our knowledgeable guides. Kieran, in particular, was a wealth of information, and his enthusiasm for astronomy was contagious. Using high-powered telescopes and laser pointers, he guided us through the constellations, sharing fascinating insights into the science and mythology behind them.

The sky was clear, and the views through the telescopes were nothing short of spectacular. My children were in awe as they gazed at distant galaxies and planets, and I was thrilled to see their curiosity sparked by the experience. The team also took photos throughout the evening, which were available for free download afterward. It was a lovely touch that allowed us to relive the memories of our night under the stars.
