Highlights
  • Old Louisville - Recommended by The New York Times, Louisville Historic Tours has specialized in guided walks through “America’s Most Haunted Neighborhood” since 2004. Once home to bourbon barons, racetrack royalty, and titans of tobacco, this transitional neighborhood has a wealth of ghostly lore that attracts supernatural buffs from all around the world. Centered around Olmsted-designed Central Park and the charming residential enclave of St. James Court, this 40-square block historic district is jam-packed with Gilded Age grandeur and hundreds of spooky Victorian mansions. Best-selling author David Dominé loves showing off the neighborhood and sharing stories about his favorite allegedly haunted houses. Come and see what all the buzz is about!

IMPORTANT NOTE: On our tours, you might see things you would see in any larger city across the US; this includes homeless people, panhandlers, or others who do not look like you. If you do not like a diverse neighborhood, this is not the tour for you.

Additional Information

Open daily from March to November, with a few days available during the off-season!

Old Louisville, famous for its splendid Victorian houses and eclectic inhabitants, has attracted national interest. It’s the neighborhood where mavens of bourbon, racing tycoons, and tobacco magnates chose to reside in the 19th century. The guided walk is based on books by author David Dominé, who often leads the tour groups himself. The walk includes narration of personal anecdotes and local chatter. The New York Times suggested this as the top priority in their ‘36 Hours in Louisville’ visitors’ guide. You’ll also hear about A DARK ROOM IN GLITTER BALL CITY, David’s upcoming book scheduled for release in October 2021!

We concentrate on ‘America’s Most Haunted Neighborhood,’ launching from the junction of Fourth and Ormsby, at the brink of the said neighborhood. This tour is a treat if you’re fond of ancient architecture and eerie history! However, if you are uncomfortable with neighborhoods undergoing transformation and heterogeneous racial composition, this may not be the one for you! Lastly, if you’re unable to sustain for 100 minutes without a restroom, it’s better to skip this one!

  • FYI The starting point is in a transitional area where you might encounter panhandlers, homeless people, and people who don’t look like you.
  • MUST BE ABLE TO WALK 100 MINUTES WITHOUT A BATHROOM BREAK!
  • Not recommended for visitors who have trouble walking longer distances
Location
4th @ Ormsby
Start/End at the brown "FILSON HISTORICAL SOCIETY" sign, near the bus stop; this is a little over a mile directly south of the Brown Hotel downtown. (Use "1300 South Fourth Street" but DO NOT TRY TO ENTER the actual building; we meet OUTSIDE, at the corner across the street!)

Memorable Experience - Our guide Brenda was very knowledgeable and we had a great time! I would highly recommend this tour. We went at 7:30 which was the perfect time to still have enough daylight to get a good view of all the houses.
