Highlights

Luangnamtha

Nam Ha NPA - Your journey through the Namha Villages Experience commences with a brief, thirty-minute minivan ride to the trailhead. The initial segment of your trek involves an uphill climb for approximately one hour through secondary growth forest. The path then leads you downward to a creek, marking your entry into the primary forest. Here, you’ll encounter numerous ancient trees, some centuries old. The trek continues with a mix of ascending and descending paths until you pause for an exceptional local meal. Post-lunch, the hike extends for another one to two hours, culminating in your arrival at the village by mid-afternoon. The remainder of the day is yours to engage with the village children, explore the community, or join the locals in gathering wild plants for the evening meal. This presents a unique chance to bond with the villagers, accompany them in fishing, or relish a refreshing dip in the pristine waters of the Namha river. A sumptuous dinner prepared by the villagers awaits you, followed by a relaxing evening around a campfire before retiring for the night.

Amazing jungle trek experience and remote overnight homestay - We had the best time with Thid and his team of guides and fellow hikers. The jungle is a really special place, and Thid showed us many edible medicinal plants and explained their use. His knowledge was inspiring. It fully became clear to us how versatile bamboo is after going on this hike and visiting the homestay. Our lunch on top of the mountain was delicious, fire roasted fish and lots of vegetables, since our group members were mainly vegetarians. Reaching the homestay village was a satisfying end to the day, we took part in dancing, crossbow firing, river swimming and rice pounding. We also had time to wander around the village ourselves and soak up the atmosphere. Sadly I had to leave on the second day due to a bad stomach, so a motorbike was organised to take me back to town which I really appreciated. I would highly recommend the hiker as an agency. If you’re struggling to make your mind up - just choose the Hiker. Guides were very Knowledgable and professional, and fantastic cooks too!

Wonderful experience with delicious food and kind local guides - Two days forest trek with homestay was a wonderful and exceptional expertience! The hike was a bit difficult at some points but the guides weren’t rushing so everyone felt comfortable. I particularly enjoyed when Mr Thid shared his knowledge of medicinal and edible plants from the forest. I wish I’d known how are these plants called in English. Homestay was comfortable, we swam in the river and enjoyed some activities with locals. I’d highly recommend a tour with The Hiker!

amazing adventure - The tour was amazing! We were a small group accompanied by two friendly guides - one a local guide from a village nearby and an english speaking guide for translation. The english speaking guide guide was very friendly and helpful. On the hike we learned a lot about the forest and the ethnic groups. They also showed us edible plants which we could try as a jungle snack along the way. The homestay offered impressive insights in the daily life of the village. The trail lead trough challenging terrain (we chose a hard route) but the views are definitely worth it! Overall a very good experience :)

Wonderful experience - We had a wonderful two days with our guide Peng, trekking through the jungle and staying the night in the traditional village Nalan Neua. Everything was very well organized and we enjoyed being in the jungle and in the company of our guide. The first day was a little bit more strenuous than we anticipated, not so much because of the distance but more the steepness which our knees are not accustomed to (and not being in our twenties anymore). But we were given plenty of time to rest and had a lovely vegetarian lunch (with a view) at the highest point of the trail. The village and homestay were really nice. We did feel a little awkward, like maybe we would be intruding on the local people but I guess this is the way eco-tourism works, both for them and for us. Also, from the description of the trek we expected to visit more than one village, but now we spent more time in the jungle instead which was really great as well. A big thumbs-up to “the Hiker”. A unique, eco-friendly and ethical trip in northern Laos - It was a very personable, comfortably organised and unique excursion. Probably the most memorable of all the South East Asian stop-overs during our trip around the world especially considering its slightly "off the beaten track" aspect when it comes to Laos. We are so glad we didn't miss this gem of a place! As for the tour itself, the guide was knowledgeable, friendly and created a fun atmosphere for the group. The food was delicious, the hike wasn't too strenuous and the time we spent at this remote village was such a reward. The fact this trip is organised in an eco-friendly, ethical and community-mindful way with local guides meant a lot to us when researching the available trips in Luang Nam Tha in the first place and The Hiker's caring team surpassed our expectations. When crossing over to Laos from Thailand many people head for Luang Prabang straight away but Luang Nam Tha turned out to be the highlight of our entire 3-week stay in Laos. Highly recommended.

2 days trekking with local homestay. - Fantastic hiking 2-day adventure We completed a two-day forest trekking trip with homestay. A very incredible experience! Our guide Amphai led us through narrow paths through the rice fields and woods. We came across several stunning trees and vantage places. Our guide, who is fluent in English, provided a lot of information about the forest and the surrounding areas during the trip. Thanks for the lovely time, we will come back in one day and see you again Amphai.
