Brilliant 3 day trekking! - Me and a friend did the 3 day ‘hunter trail’ trekking tour which was amazing! The walking is hard work but very rewarding with lots of amazing views along the way, and the cool wooden huts where you spend the first night make you feel really immersed in the jungle! Our tour guides, Sai and Vieng, cooked us some of the best meals we’ve had in Laos. They were both so much fun to trek with and it was so interesting seeing the techniques they use to build, cook and survive in the jungle. The locals in the khmu village we stayed at on the second night were so inviting and we really felt like we got an authentic experience. Highly recommend this tour!

Amazing experience with a khamu guide - To Xay and Khor from Hello Hikers: We had a wonderful stay in complete autonomy in the Nam Ha forest thanks to our guides Xay and Khor. We chose the 3-day trek package (Hunter Trail). This consists of approximately 15km on the first day, 17km on the second day, and 8km on the third day. A total of around 40km. Don't let yourself be fooled by the distance which seems short, the difference in altitude will work the quadriceps! We felt perfectly safe throughout our stay. Xay taught us a lot of medicinal and religious information about the plants of this primary forest. Both were helpful and attentive. Concerning the meals, the products come from the local market and are carried by Khor, then cooked by her and Xay during the 3 days. 100% local! We cook over the fire, we eat on banana leaves all together while sharing (no fridge, hypochondriacs refrain). The first accommodation is very basic, we sleep on the floor. Sleeping bags are provided but we recommend taking your own mosquito net and eco-friendly soap to wash in the small stream nearby. Accommodation at the Guest House on the second day in the village was magical. Everything was perfect: a visit to the village, games with the children, a dance by the young girls from the school, the discovery of the village school and swimming in the Nam Ha river did us the greatest good! In addition, according to reading the Lonely Planet before our departure, the Hello Hikers organization returns the money paid for the trek fairly to the guides and the village (140 dollars per person for 3 days, meals included). Please note, we receive water at the start but this counts for the first 2 days. Given the high heat, the humidity and the kilometers to be covered, this is not enough. The guide therefore boils water for the second day but if you are not comfortable drinking it, it is better to bring a personal water supply from the start to last 2 days with completely water. safe drinking #hypochondriacs. Overall, we highly recommend this trek for its incredible landscapes, its authenticity and its sporting challenge! We are totally immersed in the daily life of the Khamus villagers, enough to disconnect and recharge our batteries. Another big thank you to Xay and Khor!

3 day trek out of Luang Namtha - We had a great trek with The Hiker. It was well organised and our guide Kum was excellent at communication and kept us well informed. He was knowledgeable and happy to share. His English was good. The other guides were also kind and respectful. And they cooked some of the best food we had in Laos. I loved how they were growing a vege garden at the camping spot.

The best experience in Laos - I would definitly recommend to book a trekking at The Hiker. The service is excellent! I did a 3 daytrekking, with 1 night in the jungle and 1 night in a homestay. We were 4 people, so we got 2 guides from The Hiker who spoke English and 1 local guide from a hilltribe village. The food cooked by the guides was wonderful. I felt safe the entire trip, the guides were always gentle and willing to help with any kind of problem. A big shout out to Xai, Jiay and Mi! Thank you for the best experience ever!

The best three days - I‘ve had probably the best three days of my life. Not going to lie it was very hard but so worth it!! Pheng was the best guide ever and a very good cook. I am vegetarian which was no problem at all and the food was amazing. The village we stayed at the second night was absolutely amazing. The people were the most welcoming!! I had a very good time and would do it again. Thank you!

Dissapointed, compared to other trips - The beautiful nature itself deserves 5 stars for sure, but it was a bit dissapointing compared to other hiking trips I did. With the hiker I did a 3 day trip, together with 2 other people (group of 3): -it was supposed to be 6 hrs hiking per day but the first days was only about 3 hrs, other day nearly 6 but with slow walking -the first 2 days no changing of environment, no views, also the 2 nights were both in a valley -the 1st day another bigger group on the same route, close to us -we had to buy our water for the last day (were supposed to get 2 bottles/day from the company) Positive: -the homestay village was really lovely -3rd day was more of what I expected, more green jungle and view into a valley.

No wildlife at all - I chose a 3 days trek called "Wild Explorer" because the agency certified me we could see wildlife. The only thing we saw was a frog... However we were a quiet group of 3 persons. The "guides" (two random guys barely speaking english) didn't have any still to spot wildlife. They explained that Lao people ate every animal around so there were almost nothing left. At least they were honest. It's very expensive for only hiking in a part of the park (that you can do by your own) with no charm at all exept for the last hour. You just can't ask people to pay that much for that kind of tour, neither tell them fake information to be sure they buy your tour.
